Finally got to see this movie.
Does anyone know why that bear was stabbing himself with a needle
at the end of the movie? I can't, for the life of me, work it out.

He was repairing himself.

I thought it was pretty obvious.

What'd you think of the movie itself though?

It didn't overall do it for me. Spielbergs classic alien ending was a bit over the top.

That robot bear was wicked

They were advanced forms of mecha, not aliens.

I watched some of A.I, I personally thought it was boring.
But the bear was awesome.

artificial intelligence itself refers to the mind of a computer, ie a robotic/mechanical object so they were so i guess, not that i have sen it haha, but thats how i figure it works

Lots of people thought they were aliens, including me at first.
It's just due to the shape, which somewhat resembles the 'conventional' alien we see today.
However, they do infact mention that they are advanced form of mecha.

That was the whole point of the film.
Humans create mecha to emulate humans.
Little Boy Mecha wants to be human, and has a "break down".
Roll on lotsa yrs, Mecha lose what it is to be human, and become so refined in A.I.
Find initial human/mecha and wish to be more human.
Robots who want to be human.
Go figure...I still wish Stanley Kubrick had lived to finish it, or may be someone else directed it when he died.
Spielberg gave it the E.T. feel and Encounters touch which was sooooooo wrong.
Spielberg gave it to much pansy feel and it could have been a lot more vigorous in the mindstuff.

I'm, still honestly not sure I like it or not, still thinking about it.
I think I like it though.

If you're referring to the ending, then no.

I fell asleep about 45 minutes into it. It just didn't hold my attention at all. Oh well.

I do recall that they made it clear that the main characters were androids rather than aliens.

This has got to be just about the most underrated movie ever !

I totally loved it. Sure the story got a little munted at times but it was an amazing concept. It only took a couple of minutes for me to work out that the "aliens" were actually advanced mecha.

When the boy was trapped with the blue fairy I felt so lonely.

I think it's a fantastic film, but some parts could have been better. The bit with Doctor Kno! looked like a Saturday morning kids show. The composited words looked bad.

The ending was pretty gutting too

That movie is a visual feast, that conjures up so many emotions. Sure, certain areas were a little uneven, but overall - Wow.

And many people refer to the ending as too nice. It wasn't nice. It just completes the odyssey (sp.), by rewarding him with one final day with his mother, before she completey vanishes.

I left feeling depressed, yet uplifted at the same time.

Well I had a worse situation. I rented it out on DVD and me and my Girlfriend watched it together... She was leaving for a holiday back up in Rotorua with her parents I cuddled her all night long! It might be soppy, but I just felt helpless! I was going to be alone for 6 days!!! LOL, it doesn't seem like much but she's also my best friend!

And I certainly don't see the ending as a happy ending, it's too mixed up for it to be only happy. It's also sad because the little robot boy went to sleep too, effectively killing himself... The bear would have shutdown too.

It's so awesome that the kid went through all that shit, just to spend one day with his mummy. It makes me feel wierd.

Although it's sold as a kids movie, certain aspects were too dark for children.

Oh, and that female pleasure bot was so yummm

I think I went to the toilet when that happened because I never saw it, though when I watched the making of... there she was. I think I might actually start buying DVDs that I think are worth collecting.

I bought A.I. It's really worth it.

I just finished watching it... (I hired it out after seeing the thread).

AI has the single most emotionally jarring ending I have ever experienced.

But that is not a good thing... depressing as hell.

My view:
The first 3/4ths were good, then the advanced mechas killed it. The whole "one day to live" thing was unjustified as well.




The wandering around the artificial house scenes were nasty, as you knew it was being created by the mechas. I feel empty.

I'm taking the piss, the movie didn't really grab me at all. I wouldn't watch it again.

I liked some of the movie, the teddy was cool, how he was wise and all, and a few other things like the advanced mecha at the end.

but I didn't really get drawn into it, I do however, get drawn into Dragon Ball Z (I ususally don't watch that twice either though, unless its a really good ep)
