The Witcher 2: Assassins of Kings
was great

I will vote for Dragon Age 2, best RPG of the year. Skyrim, Deus Ex: HR and Witcher 2 are absolute shit in comparison to Bioware's masterpiece. DA2 is the best game that Bioware has ever made, in fact.

Kirkwall and the Deep Roads were amazing place to explore, busting with unique content. Contrasted with Skyrim with it's awful, awful copypasta dungeons and other content.

The best part of the Dragon Age 2 is that is designed specifically for a hardcore PC RPG audience. I tried playing the Xbox 360 version and it was almost utterly unplayable given the nature of the difficult, tactical combat. You have to pause the action almost all of the time and plan your next move, or you will be flattened in combat.

This isn't even a contest. No other games came close to what Skyrim did this year. That is the GOTY regardless of what any poll says.

While the UI being utter shit, Skyrim has my vote knowing that it will be modded in the near future

It's a certainly a great game, but it's nothing we hadn't seen before. If anything it was a massive downgrade in a lot of departments to its sister titles. The writing in the game is pretty shit, especially when compared to New Vegas. Gameplay saw noticeable downgrades.

Really close contender for me is Dark Souls. That game is freaking fantastic and when I play Skyrim I lament that death is only a quickload away. I've gotten a real taste for actual repercussions when you die and I wish more games incorporated a system similar to Dark Souls. Also, actually learning from each and every monster encounter is simply amazing. You actually improve you own ability instead of simply becoming more powerful.
