I use Coda. A tad expensive, but I now swear by it and it's paid for itself tenfold now.

Notepad is always a good starting point otherwise.

Personal projects - Notepad++, mostly, but have had a quick play with PHPStorm and it looks sweet.

At work, VS2010.

I use Intellij IDEA at work and home, as their licence explicitly allows you to use it on multiple computers - one at a time though.

sweet glad to know notepad is still being used. Is there any industry standard software that I should look at learning or just try and see what I prefer?

Currently using Dreamweaver. The only thing I don't like is the way it manages multiple sites and syncs files.
Only ever use code view in Dreamweaver so I should really try something else.

Notepad++, it's not Notepad. Nah, no industry standard, besides, web development is a huge industry, just use one that you prefer. http://www.jetbrains.com/webstorm/

Depends on the language: UltraEdit for PHP/HTML/CSS/Javascript, Visual Studio for ASP.NET, IntelliJ for Java and FlashDevelop for AS3.

MacVim for rails/js stuff. Netbeans for php (i like the code completion). Xcode for ios - I still can't work out whether it's just really annoying or proof that god exists (i.e. it's the code manifestation of satan taking a dump on earth).

If I ever started using too much more of Notepad++ I'd probably start looking for something a bit more specialised for the task
