Oh yes that is exactly what I plan to do. Forgot to mention she doesn't want it right away, but quite possibly in the near future. Will treat this add-on as a new contract, and get v1.0 site up and running ASAP.

That's the best way. I've got a client I'm doing this with as well. Sites live, but will be adding shopping cart functions for their products over the new couple of weeks. Just getting their mobile version of the site tweaked and live.

Oh Yis. Finished problem set 4 of OCW. The decrypted text came out with a couple of spelling errors..odd. I'm hoping that fits in with the moral of the fable (what was encrypted). Recursion is a messy one to wrap the head around.

Meeting went well. This is the first time client had seen the site functioning live (previously was just a screenshot). I think she really liked it even though I'm no designer so that's good.

Explained to her eCommerce options and development + operational costs involved and I think she was taken a-back. I don't think she expected the cost to more than double and probably thought it would only be a couple extra hundred dollars. Still haven't got this new contract as she needs to organise herself more before committing but I sure hope she does go through with it.

Anyways for v1.0 still waiting for stock photography (she is getting it done via a friend). Expected launch date was end of May but most likely will get pushed to mid June due to delays.

In the meantime I have a meeting with a potential employer early next week so *fingers crossed*!

For the last week or so have been crunching & pushing very hard on our new look and feel website for our client reporting. Had a 2 week deadline which I'm well ahead of and just got word today we have another 2-3 weeks so that's a win _b this is going to be good .. it's for a proposal for more business from one of our biggest global clients. Can't wait to see their reactions; going from shitty old barely-usable, ugly-ass, desktop-only website to a nice looking, user friendly, sleek, fully responsive touch-friendly website. + Much much better data warehousing.

Ruby Mixins are so much fun, as is this gem https://github.com/travisjeffery/timecop. I'm time travelling! :D

Monkey patching core library classes always gives me the chills. Admittedly, I can see how such tests could be useful, in Java land we end up using dependency injection to test similar stuff - no new Date()s allowed - so what they say is true. A design pattern is evidence of a missing language feature.

Now, whether or not its bad to be missing that feature is another question. :D

At silverstripe development training day two.

Getting a bit annoyed that people came along who are not developers and were spending large amounts of time going over php basics which isn't what this was supposed to be. So far we have spent a hour going over many-many database relationships for those who are not devs.

Hahahaha. Are they from the government? My former MED coworkers keep popping up on my LinkedIn for that endorsement thing - does X know Agile? does Y know Scrum?

Wut. No, none of them know agile, or scrum. They may know the buzzword, they may have even done some training, but their organisation is so ****ing far from agile that it's not funny.

I expect shortly "Does X know Silverstripe? Does Y know PHP?"

Rocked my world.

Not really to be honest - I've already knocked out about 15 templates in the last month or so, so was pretty familiar with it already. Was more looking for best practise/workflows from SS point of view which he didn't really touch on at all.

Ah, ctrl + J (as in Java doc) for me. But I'm on OS X because my boss is a lifelong Apple fan.

Found something cool the other day, when using reflection, IDEA autocompletes the String representation of the method name.

Bad luck...

I'm spending the weekend grinding out some .NET to prove I'm the superior developer to a few workmates - I've never even written "hello world" before, but can't be that hard. I've met some terrible, terrible "windows devs".

Pointers?

Install Resharper. C# ain't Java, it's better (apart FromTheCasing), so use the good bits - and .NET developers aren't so used to enterpriseyness as Java devs. They're still trying to figure out if dependency injection frameworks are good or evil at the moment, and they keep using Service Locators everywhere. :Puke:

Bit jelly of C# and F#

Been creating a mobile version of a clients site. Got it all looking good and sweet for now. I've stripped it down a lot from the website version, removed images, divs and so forth. Managed to get all the font sizing looking uniform across the site as well. I'm going to add in some features once I'm happy it's working across multiple smartphones.

Found out I love the media types for CSS3 so I can alter things for landscape or portrait!

Funnily the person who originally created the site (different company blah blah) installed it to a folder named magneto
Had a little chuckle to myself about either it being the x-men villain or just a spelling error.
