Major issues in Halswell South CHCH. Phone is fuzzy lost dial tone, etc... Hoping the issue clears itself up before I have to get off my ass.

Why is your US attainable rate 310 bps?

Line drops from 1.9mbit to just 800mbit even on national. Would Telecom be able to do a re-wire? This only happens when it rains, so i guess something wrong with the line itself (phone also sounds fuzzy)

No, but Chorus can.

They wont do a rewire, they will trace down where the loop/ground is, and redo the joint or replace wire/cable as needed.

Of course you'll want to check out your filters before booking a tech via Slingshot though.

Call them and get them to test your line.
This isn't a Slingshot issue, its a physical line issue.

Don't know.

Other examples I have seen on here (via the "adsl status" command) show less than what I get there.

Actual rate I get in speedtests is 17.8 / 1.06 Mbps

Torrents I have seen up to 2.2 MB/s.
Steam downloads I have seen up to 2.3 MB/s.

Ok guys been reading a lot here, I just moved to Queenstown and not many ISP plans are available here. Im looking for a unlimited data plan and slingshot seems to be the one providing it here.

So ive got a few questions, we dont have a phone line, like litterly no line, no plug in the wall, is a naked broadband plan wireless or are they gonna have to put a cable somewhere?? i dont really get that.

They also tell me broadband speed would range between 3Mbps - 12Mbps depending on the exchange in my area, Im a big fan of torrents, so im a bit afraid we will have problems with the speeds..

So all in all a year ago reviews didnt seem good but it did get better overtime? someone have any tips for me on what ISP to get here? Is slingshot actually any good?

Im so used to my european 50mbps unlimited connection for like under 50 bucks a month..never had any restrictions!

thnx!

I've been using the slingshot unlimited ALL YOU CAN EAT plan since it's inception it has had some rough patches but slingshot are a dedicated team and supported me thru all the problems I usually get around 1mb transfer speeds on torrents, It can get a drop in speed between 7pm-1am, I live in Dunedin so I don't know what it would be like in Queenstown.

Also they do have to put in a cable to the house for the modem to plug into naked broadband is not wireless.

If you can get a phone line installed, then you should be able to use almost any ISP. This will cost you a bit and it depends on the circumstance of how long they have to run the cable. Expect at least a few hundred if not more. This is something i would have checked before moving into a new property personally.

If you are going to use wireless, it's going to be very expensive and have a poor data cap.

Please note that there are no easily available unlimited data plans in new zealand which will have as good performance as a capped plan. Unlimited plans get overloaded, services are prioritized and throttled, you only have to read a few pages back of this thread to see how often issues can crop up. There are options available in between, such as Snap's high limit data plans with unlimited from 1am to 7am, which is good for queueing stuff up overnight.

Depends on your modem.

Hes telnet into it and just run the command 'adsl status'

Practically any modem router you can get the same stats from a status page on the web interface.

got a call today from a telecom sales rep about the 'new' plans? been having a read through - can anyone tell me if telecom is decent lately?

i'm still on the 'old' torrent plan from xnet - get about 75gb if i move my dloading to 2am-8am, which suits me fine (for about $40-50 incl usage during normal hours too). speedwise its primo as im mostly dloading/uploading to own server which maxes out my connection speed anyway.

if i switch and telecom turns to custard, id obviously be unable to get back on this plan so would appreciate some feedback :D

As a general rule these days, telecom is almost always fine in terms of performance.

And wow that is an old plan. Snap still offers the offpeak downloading xnet used to do.

Slingshot do not dictate what your physical line capabilities are.

Likely it is a line issue. Perhaps bad weather, electric fences, degradation of wiring or other interference.

Yeah, was just wondering if anyone else had the issue might have been service problem, I am getting a chorus tech to come out and install master filter next week, hopefully that cleans up signal

I've just joined Telecom, while it seemed Slingshot had improved its customer service, I think the general net quality was average-medium.

Being back on Telecom feels great so far.

edit: I'd like to give a shout out to the customer service squad who have been...unbelievably helpful in my move from slingshot to telecom. Almost sad that I left :P

This has been the worst month with slingshot - so many days/nights of no connectivity or very low speeds.

Great customer service as always - but unsure why the lines have just become awful.

It's been worse more times than it's been good this month and after already making 4+ calls to the helpdesk I'm swiftly getting over it.

What's this new Slingshot Globalmode thing?
http://www.slingshot.co.nz/global-mode

Not explained very well on the website.
A way to bypass Netflix, BBC iPlayer etc country restrictions?

-edit
Seems to work for BBC iPlayer, but not Netflix.
Will have to experiment a bit.
