Long since the dawn of time have men been obsessed with heavy machinery. Well at least since it started coming equipped with high-tech weaponry anyway! It was for this reason that we jumped for joy when we heard about Battle Engine Aquila – "Finally a decent sounding Mech game for the PS2!" we said. Yes, it is a ‘Mech’ game, but it’s also much more......

Well aint we picky! Whats wrong with my comments? :D

I brought this game a month before it came out (Promo copy) yeah I know there was no need to mention that.
Anyway I only played the first two levels and abit of the two player, from what I did play I thought it was a good game but the last few months I have been going down hill on my games and been playing less and less.
When I'm in the mood I will have another go and recomend it to others.

No no, not picky, i'd just let Prawny borrow my copy, and was wondering what he thought of it since the game isn't out yet and i didn't know anyone who had it. Until now that is.

So, playing less and less huh? Hmmmmm, sounds serious. If you need to talk about it, need a friendly ear so to speak, PM me, remember, a problem shared is a problem halved. :)

Ok, well after playing this game for a little while, I really like it (although I suck at it bigtime :)). Orphan pretty much hit it on the head with the review....the only thing I'd disagree with is that the explosions prolly could look better :)

Other than that what you've got here is a nice mech shooter with some real-time strategy elements thrown into the mix. I like the smooth transition from flying mech to ground mech, and how you need to be thinking of several different things - type of weapon, level of ammo, energy left, what's happening in different parts of the map - at the same time as shooting a big hole in the enemy. Certain weapons won't work as well on some enemies as others, you need to be on the lookout for landing spots in the sea battles (you can't float, or fly indefinitely), going after certain enemies first will leave some of your forces under attack - all things that need to be considered in each mission. Great stuff.

It can get a little confusing at times - a little trial and error may be needed, especially in the battles where there are multiple enemies on different parts of the map to fight, but it's not something that gets overly tiresome.

In all, a good deep game that'll keep those who like it going for a while.

Good comments there Prawny.

I'm looking forward to some 2-player carnage at some stage soon. Maybe when you come up this weekend? :D

Yeah, I'd be quite keen to see how the two player pans out - do you know if it's competitive or cooperative, or bith?
