Source: CSNZ midway (GotFrag) The Austrian site CS gamer-scene has done an interview with GotFrag's midway. He discusses the development of American and European e-sports and the potential for growth. There's also questions about the world's top clans and their recent performances. To read the interview just click the "Das Interview (engl.)" link (in English). Q: I remember a photograph of HeatoN congratulating on shaGuar after zEx had beaten eoLithic on CPL Winter, both laughing. Now, only two weeks ago zEx threw SK out of the run for ESWC champion. Do you think that there is space for any multi-continental friendship beneath all this rivalry between the two continents? midway: There always is and always will be. They play the same game and enjoy doing the same things and friendships between the top players will always exist. I spend a lot of time talking to Ksharp on IRC and he's very good friends with Ahl from SK.swe. These friendships will last no matter who plays whom or who beats whom. People can be friends and still play against each other, its quite common in other professional sports, why not in eSports? Hey maybe one day these cross continent friendships will give us our first team of combined European and American players. Angel Munoz (CPL) The Cyberathlete Professional League (CPL) was created in 1997. It now has over 20 events worldwide with around US1.5 million dollars given away in cash and prizes. Sogamed has an extensive feature on Angel Munoz, President and Founder of the CPL. Q: Anything you can tell us about the game CPL has had the idea of developing to provide the ultimate experience for the players and the fans? Angel: Sure. I can say that the idea was recently resurrected by a group of people interested in helping us develop it. In the next few months we will know if the game will actually see realization or not. Q: There have been countries complaining about qualifiers being pulled from their countries, are there any reasons for these kinds of decisions? Angel: The case that you are referring to is Australia. What happened in Australia had to do much more with the local organizers than just the CPL. When the local organizers threatened us that we either pay them to hold the qualifier or they would go public with our refusal, all communication between us broke down. By consequence many gamers in Australia think CPL does not want to hold a qualifier there, but that is simply not true. Any organization in Australia or any other country wanting to hold a qualifier for one of our events needs only to contact Justin Blanchard (justin blanchard@thecpl.com) and we will be more than happy to integrate Australia into our qualifying circuit again. The questions about planned events and the future venue that will hold 10,000 people will be updated after the CPL Press conference on August 2 at Summer CPL in Dallas, Texas. |

I talked to the owner of TheBunker (the cafe holding CPL.au qualifier) and from what he told me it seemed a bit of both sides doing the damage really, when two groups wont give in to eachother you get consequences like Australia did in this case.

Like "thebunker" not Australia, as Angel put it, its not Australia its the local organisers that screwed the relationship up between the two. Australia sure has a growing community, Thebunker isnt adsactly the only one who can hold a CPL, in the future other places in Australia will. Us kiwis tho, well we dont even have a venue to start with so we cant do shit cept buy tickets ~ gg |

They lost because cpl refused to give any money towards flying the best team over, which says to me that angel munoz is watertight-arsehole man when it comes to money considering that the cpl had just been granted two million dollars US funding... from what I understand that is.
