Everyone always misses windows NT and 2000 in their "good shit" rant. Both NT and 2000 were awesome, although since 2000 is a much better NT, you could theoretically say NT is the "shit" one of the two.

I'm not impressed at how half the programs won't run form metro. (eg: click and nothing launches.) >_<

****, didn't put the ISO onto a flash drive like I was supposed to, just unzipped it and ran it from there.

May need to reinstall Windows 7.

Had a play with w8.

Its looks like it will be absolutley useless with one screen, it was kinda usable with two.
No start bar = fail and whole screen start menu = total fail.

It looks and feels worse than unity which is a pretty big statement to make

e: also lol@the weather app only in Fahrenheit

you go to the right hand side (hidden) and you can go to settings and change it.

i'm getting used to the full screen thingy. the biggest problem is realising if something is apps or system.

like "administrative tools" is under system not apps.

I just installed Windows 8 normally with the custom option. Retains all your bootloader settings, so both my Windows 7 and Linux Mint (which was installed inside Windows 7 via Wubi) installations still work just fine. And if you set Windows 7 as the default from the Windows 8 bootloader, it'll also default to the vista Bootmgr, so you don't have to wait a week to select your OS (And Windows 8 will load just fine from there as well).

so yeah I am hooked tbh.. first impressions = shit

However after a few days its great...... my only complaints

-Task Manager is fantastic.. but it only seems to show "Installed" programs in the history page
-A lot of Metro at the moment seems pretty useless for a desktop PC .. more of a gimmick.. if you just use it as a glorified start menu its fine.. but the music player etc ?? useless on a desktop

I dont really see a reason to go back to 7 TBH ... seems faster for gaming which is a shock

What a twist!

I agree most metro apps are shit for a desktop, but as I said before nobody is forcing you to use them instead of your normal applications.

Anyone tried if this registry change still works on the new build?

http://www.neowin.net/news/windows-...ssic-start-menu

Stardock are already working on a way to return the Start Menu too if anyone is worried about missing it.

you can also hover your mouse to the zero pixel area (start button) at bottom left corner and when you see the preview for the start/metro screen, right click to reveal the same menu.

Hmm...

I just RDP'd into my W8 test box (windowed), and had a **** of at time operating anything since none of the shortcut keys work, until I changed the options to make the RDP window intercept the keys. 1 extra step to make things work where previously it just worked.

Also, having to 'slide' the screen upwards instead for login instead of the usual just click & go? Really? This is not a tablet. It's a desktop, with no touch interfaces. At least that can be reverted to the old CTRL+ALT+DEL to logon system.

What is M$ trying to do? Merge desktop and tablet OSes into one? While tablets undeniably have their place, I think this is going to end badly.

We all know how well Windows Vista/7 runs on those older pseudo-tablet PCs which use stylii... that's what happens when you take a desktop OS and slap it on a tablet and expect it to work good.

Press enter at the initial screen instead of 'sliding' anything and it jumps instantly to the login screen..

Upgraded my Dell Vista Laptop yesterday so have spent today playing with it. Must say very impressed so far, quick and easy to navigate, well thought out and fully customisable. Would liek to see the X to close reintroduced though.

So I assume developers are going to be able to create metro tiles? I can see that getting cluttered pretty quickly.
