Orcs. Humans. Elves. The Undead. Sprinkle liberally with some nasty weapons, add in a pinch of impending doom and stir. What comes out at the end is the long awaited third chapter in the Warcraft saga, Warcraft III. This time, however, the title "Real Time Strategy (RTS)" is not entirely encompassing enough to do it justice. This time, and for the first time, Blizzard have presented us with something slightly different - the RPS, or Role Playing Strategy game....

Nice :D

Needs more big words to appeal to the more intelligent readers... like 'alakazam' and 'boowhupdeefuddle'... but you're on the right track.

Yeah a very good review. It's nice to hear that the long wait was actually worth it.

No one could have said it better. 4.5 out of 5 stars indeed _b

PS: I never noticed any bugs in the game. Only things I encountered were a few disconnections on battle.net ;(

Its not so great..... nice lights but still square head guys in the cutscenes and completely no effort to make the animated narration look anything more than an out-of-sync moron.

Nice embelishment of the game with the cutscenes etc but its a 3/4 effort.

If SexyMF is this aggro to one of the most popular franchises in the history of gaming, i'll eat my hat, but i'll only eat my hat if you make it look like some nando's chicken wings. :D

I cant beleive that you can call Warcraft III a 3/4 effort, they've been making it since Starcraft came out in 1998 FFS! The game itself is the strong point, who gives a shit about engine cutscenes (The pre-rendered ones are freakin incredible anyway). They use the same models as are used ingame so you cant expect them to be too great otherwise it would run like crippled dying sick donkey on anything other than a top of the line PC. If you actually play the game you'll realise that it's one of the best balanced, varied and kickass strategy games ever created. Playing single player just doesn't do it justice though, go play some human opponents and see what I mean.

BTW lip sync is out because it just uses the same animation looped so if it does actually match thats pure chance.

I know that, and at this stage of gaming that is back in the pacman age.

"If you actually play the game you'll realise that it's one of the best balanced, varied and kickass strategy games ever created."

Yeah, I've not touched the game at all, I just add a comment to a game I've never played.... Take the criticism (if your so annoyed at that yell about the other 1/2 star which the reviewer didn't give it!)

Stop designing for K6-2 450Mhz users and the calibre of game will rise. Oh, you might lose a bit in the marketing sector, oh no.

BTW I have completed SC a few times over, and enjoyed it.

What I meant by play the game was not that I thought you actually hadn't played it, it was that if you spend enough time you start to realise the potential. Multiplayer gaming is where it's at man, go play on Battlenet at a LAN cafe to see what I mean. When you win you say 'ALRIGHT! AGAIN!' and if you lose you say 'Ahh crap, thats gonna take my wins ratio down I better play againt to get it back up'. It's so addictive - The other day a friend of mine was at his house, I was at my house and another guy was at a LAN Cafe in town. We played on Battlenet until 4:30 in the morning, woke up at like 1 the next day and played all day the next day. Warcraft III is like any other Blizzard game - You play until you fall asleep cos it's so damn addictive.

That is so beautiful ;( I pity the fools who fail to realise the beauty of WarCraft 3. I have been very busy with uni and stuff thus I didn't much of chance to play singleplayer campaigns, but it's true that although single-player is quite varied (and the the first 2 campaigns being quite easy), it does not do justice to the game. MP Warcraft rules _b

heh, SexyMF - that's a huge point you're digging up there. A lot of people say they'd now prefer gameplay over graphics like in the old days (I'm one of them), and to see that "Stop designig games for a AMD 450MHz" comment... D:
The game doesn't feature the sexiest graphics ever, true, but the graphics it does deliver are perfect. It's engine doesn't cause chug, even on my p3-550, and therefore the whole game is a shiteload more playable. Some of us can't afford a new computer every year, so this game is a godsend for people like me.

Not only that, it's amazingly fun, and amazingly versatile - you can get RPG maps, Hero Arena maps, Tower Defense, hell.... so much!

GW Blizzard on the game, GW phantom on the review. The only gripe I have about the game is that AI can be a little cpu-sucking at times, but hell.... I can put up with that for such a fantastic game :D

I like the lighting effects below the major characters. It makes a change from the 'realism' most other titles try to provide - somewhat arcade style.

As for multiplayer gaming being where its at, I agree.

As an aside, how much does it cost for internet cafe gaming? (I'm in Auckland)

in urban areas, $2 an hour. In superurban areas (Queen Street :p), $3 an hour - though they're starting to drop to $2 too :)
