This issue concerns woosh Internet Service Provider.

I have been a woosh customer for some time now, but over the last 1-2 weeks my internet speed has slowed to a crawl. I spoke to a representative of woosh today and was told that this was due to other users on my plan downloading higher than expected amounts of data.
This plan is called Orbit Flat Rate - it's designed for high end users. I am being punished with abysmally slow internet speeds because woosh could not support what they advertised which was uncapped internet usage. Incidently my monthly usage is around 3 GB, so there's no question of me being throttled for what I am doing.

Further I was told the only solution was switching to a different plan, and the details of that plan were misrepresented to me. I was told it would cost $39.99, when there was an additional charge of $10 for not putting my tolls through this company. And I was told the plan was "The same except for the unlimited data is replaced with a 5GB cap" when there is also a difference in linespeed. To get the same download rate I would need to pay another $10 to go onto thier Orbit 10 plan. Even though I checked their plans out and rang back maybe 5 minutes after talking to them the first time I was told I had now changed from the flat rate plan, no equivalent plan existed anymore and three was no way to get back onto what I was signed up for.

I am usually a very tolerant customer, but this deliberate throttling has effected my business online and my productivity. Had woosh called me and explained the situation I probably would have been open to what options they could present me with. Instead they crippled my service without notification and when I came to them tried to suggest they were doing me a favor by offering an inferior plan at the same rate or higher.

This is a thinly veiled attempt to get everyone off the flat rate plan so they can shut it down. Well good news woosh, you want me off your plan you got it. I'll take my business elsewhere.

To be honest that is most of what has me so riled. Rather than ring up and start shouting as soon as things started to slow down I gave woosh every chance to fix it. I guess I'm gullible and believed they might want to provide a good service....lesson learned.

Yep happening to everyone on Woosh flat rate except some of the expat QSI customers appearently. Sad thing is their other plans are rubbish so i don't see anyone switching plans. They'd switch ISPs instead.

Only if you let them take over your home phone line. Otherwise it's $60. You're also subject to a fair usage policy.

Pass on that trash plan.

he only does 3GB/month....he is getting 20GB with ihug....so where does Fair Usage Policy comes into effect for him?....at worse he can only do 2GB/day....which is better than having a monthly 3GB data usage every month with woosh....and NO....you dont have to get compulsary calling plans ANYMORE to get home phone...not that those plans are trash anyway...

so yeah...i will pass on the plan...which is not trash!

With Xnet for 3GiB he could save himself what, $13-$14 monthly? Lolz. Why pay for 20GiB if you're not going to use it? I'm pretty much dead certain you're an ihug sales employee anyway, so lolz either way.

And yes, you do have to have home phone. The ihug site you linked to says it - "$50 a month, when you also take ihug home phone and calling. Otherwise it's $60 a month" - so I don't know how you intend to debate that. Not many people like moving their line rental around.

Good post son.

Anyway disgruntled, that does suck, but it's something that's been coming for a looong time - it's the same with anything; the leechers get on and ruin it for the normal users :(.

he dosent have to go with the 20GB for $50 plan....he can go for the $40 plan (5GB data) which is $40 + $41 for phone line....

so if you can pay $42 to telecom...why cant you ring ihug and say i want my account transferred....ihug does the rest....its that simple...so that $13-$15 with Xnet saving is square now...plus ihugs got talk0 plan...for $6 talk for as long as you want with a vodafone no.....xnet hasnt got that...

Good Post Kid.

What a rubbish argument this is. Ultimately customers will go where they see the better deal. I went with Xnet after of 8 years with ihug because they charge far too much for a poor service with trash support.

I'd say a fair bit of that has to do with the fact that this is a gamer oriented forum, and that a lot of gamers have switched to Xnet. Comparatively, you don't see many with ihug. Thus, statistically, you're bound to see a lot more Xnet threads than ihug threads at any given time.

I am on an unlimited woosh plan. I'm one of those ex-quicksilver customers who is lucky enough to not have any reduction in speed. My pings are still sub-20 to NZ servers. But who says we are the ones whoring up the bandwidth?

Guttered to hear about whats happened to the majority of customers. As has been already said though, get a new ISP (one without a contract!) Thats what i'll be doing if i ever get kicked from this one.

ihug is a joke.

I have a connection with both xnet and ihug, and I can easily say that xnet kick the shit out of ihug.

Ihug are awful. I used to be on one of their 2Mb plans with 10gig until we were told to move to a Full Speed plan with only 5 gig for the same price. Given no other choice. A customer for what 8 years and you treat them like that. Ihug can eat shit.

Ihug are pathetic sellouts with unreasonable prices, low caps, poor customer service (the staff know jack shit) and just generally poor.

I was on an ihug plan before I moved to the woosh unlimited plan last year. Best thing I did was move after they started to majorly limit the amount of connections allowed for p2p and others (which made stuff time out after a few minutes, not sure if it was only for the 50GB plan I was on though).

They also had a shaping policy which screwed up games that uses international traffic with massive lag spikes and high pings with time outs every so often (again not sure if it was only the plan I was on) :ffs:.

There's no issue with national traffic - that I'm aware of. It's international traffic. But I shouldn't call the guys who are using 500GB of international traffic bastards - they are actually qwuite entitled too. It's an unlimited plan. The problem here is that Woosh thought they could do an unlimited plan, and they were wrong. But rather than be big about admitting that they decided to screw everyone around.

I did on average 35-40GB on this plan. :D Unfortunately now it has turned to custard thanks to everything including http shaped from 7am to midnight i.e. shaped all day apart from the 7 hours I usually sleep. >_< I get as low as 4-5KB/s downloads off some http servers and streaming is impossible except on sopcast - strange as it is p2p streaming and I get really good video from it.

If i were to switch ISPs i'd end up paying considerably more for the same amount of data. Considering Slingshot 256Kbps plan but I regularly watch streaming video @512Kbps+ so may not be a good idea.. maybe 2Mbps on Slingshot with the 30GB data block.
