Anyone else a little nervous about the sound quality that people have been getting in the states, wii users have been experiencing a lack of surround sound support and it appears to lack even stereo. i've been looking forward to this release and the thought of a music rhythm game outputting in mono is rather unpleasant.

text from guitar hero forum...

Hello and thank you for contacting Activision Customer Support,

Yes we are working on this issue and ask for your patience at this time. It does in fact seem to be a Wii only issue. Information regarding patches for the Wii will be posted on the Guitar Hero III website when the appropriate time comes. Please try setting your console to use stereo sound in the meantime.

Thank you for contacting Activision Customer Support, if you have any other questions, we will be happy to address them.

If they can do a patch, I will be a happy chap cause that probably means Nintendo have in place a system for DLC also. I sense a lot of cool features coming the Wii/DS ways in the next 6 months.

most likely one would require a friend code from activision allowing patches/updates to be sent as gifts but only during christmas ;)

Well i was gonna buy it come friday but now I'm not so sure. Is there a chance anyone will have it earlier in the day and could report on their findings here?

Edit: Nm, someone with the Aussie version said it has the same issue. That turns my must-buy into a must-buy-if-they-ever-fix-it-but-not-before.

yeah i'll post something after I get it, I don't have a surround sound set up at home just 2 channel and sub but it will still show if its dual mono...just reading http://www.guitarhero.com/forums/8/...ics/1258?page=5

it seems odd that certain cutscenes and online modes have correct audio then fall over for rest of game,

Looks pretty unworthy of buying on wii......my sister has a ps2 and two guitars already so I think I will just play hers. Hopefully it has all the same songs.

Yeah I'm probably going to flag it seeing as it has these problems and I might just get the PS2 version (Have guitar already). Another fail on Wii IMO.

Firstly: Buying Guitar Hero 3 on PS2? Guys, it's 2007...

Secondly: Does anyone have any reliable sources for this problem? Links to gaming sites reporting this? etc.

Well I also picked it up today despite what I said, and I really can't tell if it's proper stereo or not :P Something does seem just a little bit off for some reason though...

played a couple of hours sofar, haven't had any controller issues though I have been careful not to bump the guitar while turning on the console, the actual guitar is really nice, I quite like the white front as it has a similar sheen to the wii plastic. The extra weight is noticeable and also the wireless feature is somthing i've never had before which is superb.

As for the sound it's not as bad as I thought it might have been but I seriously hope they are working on a fix or disc replacement. The intro videos and developer logos at the beginning are all in stereo, however once in-game one notices the audio feels very full and uneveningly weighted, the various audio elements feel very compacted together, I found that altering the audio options helped a little, lowering the band audio to 7, the gutiar to 9 and leaving the FX at 11, oh and turning of the wii mote speaker sounds better as well.

The audio is mono though, dual mono rather than two discrete channels.

well time to play some more, guitar or samus,,,its nice too have the dilemma of what game to play on the wii.

recorded the audio from the wii console using audio audition and the line in jack on my computer, with the console set to stereo the first recording is the wii menu and then I load up guitar hero, the guitar hero image shows a section of the games menu and the first track slow ride. Visually you can see the stereo of the wii menu and the dual mono output of guitarhero. Unfortunately I don't have a copy of the xbox of ps3 version to record from to show the difference of the game sounding correctly.

You must have a super receiver!

Hey great work Kurty. The fact that they appear to have come out and acknowledged a problem suggests that it exists, but it's really nice to see the evidence you put forward!

How does such a travesty happen??

thats ****ed up. i read about all the threads and stuff over at GH III and like as soon as i plugged it in and started hit me with your best shot. i have definate crowd noise behind me, though the tom monaro (sp) battle is definatly mono.

Still the game is more than payable.

Thanks for that Kurty. You've helped me decide not to get the Wii version - I aint paying for mono sound - screw that. I'll grab the PS2 one I think.

In fact you should head on over to the guitarhero.com forums and post your findings. Maybe that'll spur Activision to fix it.

Maybe there are other pockets of flirtation with stereophonic audio. Perhaps we unlock an achievement for finding them all :P
