Sigh I wonder how bad this one is gonna be

Gibeau also mentioned the next installment in another of EA's racing franchises, Need for Speed. While a new Need for Speed in development isn't surprising (the franchise has been annualized since 2002's Need for Speed: Hot Pursuit 2), Gibeau did give the analysts an early look at the direction EA would be taking with the next installment of the series.

Noting that sales of last year's Need for Speed ProStreet didn't live up to EA's hopes for the game, Gibeau said he thinks it was because the series drifted too far from what consumers expected. ProStreet had dropped the tuner culture and police evasion aspects of previous installments in favor of perfectly legit closed track racing. For the next Need for Speed, Gibeau promised that the series would be getting back to its roots with a number of features, including open-world racing and a new highway battle mode.

Oh dear, another NFS. The only game from the series that I really enjoyed was Underground. Carbon was just rubbish.

**** you, you're an asshole and I hope the ESA send goons over and beat you with baseball bats.

edit - NFS needs to take A year of, EA has the burnout team which kicks NFS in every way possible. Do a one year off on year on sort of thing.

Need for Speed Porsche 2000 was the best with the original Special Edition coming in second imo. Those were the only two in the series that I bothered to play after completing the game.

Best were Need for Speed 3/4 (4 was sort of an expansion to 3) and Porsche.

Played NFS4 soo much. Would love to see that game redone and updated

Yup, the original 'Road & Track Presents The Need for Speed' was the best but Pro Street is the first one Ive enjoyed since then and the first one Ive bought since the first.

It's ugly, cumbersome, layouts weird, and powered by batteries? Cmon.

Test Drive Unlimited is more NFS than these latest incarnations of the game. Exotic cars, wicked coastal/mountain/highway roads and police that are ready to pull you up if you speed or crash. _b

Wow I just looked up and read a bit about Pro Street.... it looks really ****in good! NFS got lame when the F&F craze hit and it turned into stupid street racer culture crap... but Pro Street looks awesome as!

Yea I think the first few nfs were good. I played 1 and 2SE for ages. and from what I read they say they going back to the roots of NFS (not nfs1 but NFSU). Hopefully it will turn out better then carbon and PS, but im not expecting great things after all this is EA we are talking about

Imo Most wanted and NFSU1/2 are the best of the new NFS series but they got nothing on the older ones

I much prefer the "I'm a rich guy in an exotic car speeding down coastal road" not the street racer culture as Mettler was talking about.

+1 for NFS original.

fully enjoyed Hot Pursuit, and Most Wanted.. night time driving with the likes of underground was a bit meh imo.

Prostreet is alright, nothing exceptional, and the complete lack of cops is a bit :(

I dunno how people can say burnout is better than any of the NFS games... Racing games are one of my fav genre's but burnout is just so ridiculously stupid that it just plain out sucks imo. Its an arcade racer for ADD computer geeks that dont care/know anything about real life cars... nothing more. I mean ffs, they dont even have real cars in burnout... o_O At least NFS has had some genuinely good games in the series (NFS2, Hot pursuit 1&2, Most Wanted).

Pro street wasn't even that bad, it just gets a tad boring for an arcade racer. The racetracks just didnt have enough depth. They should've really put some real life tracks in tbh. Anyway at least this time they got the drift and drag modes bang on _b. That made it worth a purchase imo.

Translation: it's a very fast racing game for people who care more about having fun than tuning real cars. I don't care/know anything about real life cars. Which is the more logical option for me: Learning and trying to care, so I can enjoy games that require me to, or playing burnout?

Easy answer... I want NFS to go back to exotics and scenic locals, jumps, and shortcuts... which basically is what Burnout is minus the real exotic cars. And the only reason thats the case is no company is going to allow a games company to use their actual vehicles where they can be smashed and abused like that. I was amazed that ProStreet was allowed to do as much as you could.

I have Underground 2, average game imo, never played Carbon. V8 Supercars 3 would have to be the best racing game.
