mutha****ing retribution!

I hate summer traffic going home to my folks place at Muriwai. I went there for dinner earlier tonight and had the pleasure of being tailgated by a rangerover all the way from whenuapai to kumeu. Just because I'm on the speed limit, or just over, doesn't mean if you ride my ass like a homo I'm going to speed up for you- GET ****ED!

I watched him do it to more traffic all the way up to waimauku where i turned off. I would love to know how much his gas buill is the way he stomped the pedal to overtake and get the jump on traffic at the lights.

Then when i was going home, I was going to turn onto Muriwai rd to head back into Waimauku but I had to give way to 3 cars. Thew lead one was a tired looking silver station wagon. the driver craned his neck at me as he drove past. the occupants weren't Maori, Indian or Islander looking but they were dark skinned and the driver was in his mid 20's.

I pulled out after the last car and speed picked up to 60kph... and stayed there. I was thinking, surely he doesnt think this whole stretch of road is a 60km zone...

I had a black subby GT come up behind me and when we hit the only decent straight, i knew the old corona didnt have the grunt to take 2 cars before the subby could so i stayed where i was and watched him overtake the 3 of us.

by the next short straight with lots of oncoming traffic i was getting really pissed off. we were still doing 60kph and he was braking for [b]EVERY[//b] ****ing corner!! Even the corners signposted as ****ing 65kph corners. For comparison, I don't brake at all on the road except to give way at intersections.

The closer we got to Waimauku the more ****ed off i was getting and i wound down my front passenger window just in case I got the chance to abuse him.

As we came into Waimauku the car immediately infront turned off. We came around the corner and straight into a police check point outside the primary school. All 3 of us are stopped. The cop I talk to is friendly and I pass my test sweetas. He tells me to have a good night and I scoffed and said " that guy up front drove the whole way from the beach 40 kms under the limit!"

As the cop turned to look at who i was pointing at, the silver car was being pulled over to the side of the road with a few cops walking after them.

my cop said " well, looks like he isn't going very far now."

yes! score one for the good guys :)

OSH?

What's that?

I don't like working on 4-wheelers. sure, the work's easy because everything's tiny compared to cars, but it's fiddly as hell, and incredibly repetitive. We had 3 of these model Honda TRX350's for the farm, just recently traded 2 in for the new model TRX420's. (they're ****ing good fun, selectable 2WD/4WD, it's a novelty for us...plus they'll do 120km/h on the road (: )

But, the boss said i have to fix this one up. He lent it to the nieghbour a while back, and it came back with a smashed carrier on the front, bent handlebars, and collapsed bearings in the rear swingarm. Now the neighbour swears black and blue it was like that when he got it.

Bullshit. He's rolled it. Bigtime.

In the past, on the other bikes, i've done front wheel bearings, rear swingarm bearings, and leaking front brakes. Without fail, every 6 months or so one of them would flog out. This one's been pretty good, only had to do one wheel bearing and rekit the brakes.

But it had a few oil leaks as well, so i'm fixing it up well enough for us to keep as a spare.

I hurt my back again a couple of days ago, and i wasn't prepared to grovel around on the floor taking the swingarm out, so i decided to have a bit of fun. (one bonus of this sort of work - farm mechanics - you get a bit of freedom to do the job as you see fit...)

I've got two of my Landcruiser wheels strapped on the carrier, each about 75kg, to hold some weight on the front. Then it was an easy matter of hoisting up the back of the bike and tipping it right over onto the bullbar.

Puts all the bolts etc i'm working with up at chest height. I've got a couple of jackstands under it btw, they werent there when i took the pics.

****, am I relieved or what. spent most of the afternoon chipping away the sound deadening under the carpet in the driver's footwell on the RX-7, after the repair certifier asked to inspect the area around the chassis rail join.

Seems that he had a sneaking suspicion the rail had been replaced after a little incident in Japan. This could have meant game over as far as 'easy' compliance was concerned. bearing in mind that I've just been down an eerily similar path with my TX3, it was fortunate that this turned out not to be the case, and the original rail on the RX hasn't been touched.

But I'm not quite out of the woods yet, there's still a bit of scrape (for weld inspection) and chisel (weld strength) testing to come... :o

Tbh I'm probably too lazy, I'd rather pay someone else to do that, do the tyres, and get her an alignment all at the same time. Im replacing with Nismo bushes, which arent quite as firm as noathelene, but firmer than oem, which is a good compramise, except it's somwhat difficult to find someone who still does the upper control arm bushes.

I'm working on a u12 bluebird at the moment. Nothing serious, just a gearbox swap. Nice and simple.

Or so i thought.

It's a TRX. or aussie import liftback with KA24 and viscous LSD.

I've only ever seen one other before. I finally managed to track one down, at Niscars in wellington. $450 shipped for an oddball gearbox wasn't too bad. At this stage, i didn't know the car had an LSD, Niscar's gbox didn't.

Problem is, the customer arranged for me to look at the car nearly a month ago, but it was only monday last week he gave me the go-ahead to do it. And he needed the car for tomorrow. And i was working my other job all week with hired machinery, so that left this weekend

Now it's sitting in a lot of bits on the floor of the shed. Not too bad to drop the gearbox out, took about 1.5hrs. I remembered seeing somewhere that bluebird LSD axles and non LSD axles are different. Just as well i checked. The LHS inner CV has an extra set of splines on it.

So I'm getting one sent up from welly for monday morning. Luckily the guys at Niscars work saturdays. Lets hope it fits...

Now i'm curious as to how common these cars are in NZ. I've had a look on the net, but that just turned up the usual aussie forums. Anyone else ever worked on one?

I've seen heaps of them over the years. Never driven one though. A mate's dad had a sedan with the LSD. Quite impressive burnouts.

I get the feeling that most people who own them haven't realised.

Damn. Some of you may have seen in the userpics thread that I have acquired a new escort. She's a 1972 Mk1 with GT add ons such as quarter bumpers and 6 dial dash, not to mention a 1600.

So I received the car on Friday drove it around four two days and then shit hit the fan. Must've been a freak accident or something... was basically driving around at about 50km/h and somehow managed to pick up a bed sheet. Yes a bed sheet! The whole bed sheet managed to wind itself into my front left wheel, seize up and sent me sliding 20m down the road.

After taking the wheel (and the sheet) off, it has ripped the caliper clean off the disc. Not only did it ruin the caliper but it dented the strut and in turn the shock absorber.

Worst luck ever! But on the brighter side of things... time for a brake upgrade!
