I have no qualms pirating games from morally reprehensible publishers/developers. I also have no qualms about paying full price for games by the likes of Stardock, who are heroes IMO. A lot of people seem to feel similarly.

Yea though pretty much if it isn't on steam I'm not buying it. I can't remember the last game I bought that wasn't on steam (Well I did get MW2 on xfire).

I don't know wtf they are hoping to achieve from this, other than less sales.

People won't buy it because they know they are then supporting these shit new ideas.

And then those people will just pirate it 2 weeks after release date when it is cracked.

I note that Mightyape's page for Assassins Creed II does not mention this DRM.

I bet they'll get a lot of returns. It is not helpful to us consumers to not bother to tell us about it.
No mention that you cannot resell the game either.

Goodbye Ubisoft - no cash for you!

I posted a user preview pointing out this fact not long after this news story broke.

Interestingly (or tellingly, depending on which way you look at it) the preview has not been published, nor have they updated the system requirements to reflect this new development.

Don't care. Who makes a game targetted at people who don't have an internet connection these days? In 2000 this would have been something to get upset about, for five minutes, before you bravely picked up the telephone and joined an ISP. In 2010, if this is what they have to do to get a few more sales, I don't mind.

Can't remember when I didn't have internet access last, although I'm fairly sure at the time I wasn't thinking "oh shit, I can't play Ubisoft games".

You're assuming that their servers will work properly. Microsoft had real issues with this.

Ubisoft DRM servers go down.

Quote:

When Ubisoft announced its new DRM system, that required PC gamers to be connected to the Ubisoft servers at all times while playing, one of the biggest concerns that gamers had is what would happen if the servers went down.

Well, as it turns out, when the Ubioft severs go down, no one can play their games and Ubisoft customers get very upset.

I am shocked. Shocked and stunned. I am also accepting payments from people wanting me to predict other obvious things.

Scuttlebutt seems to indicate that it might be a DDOS.

Can't be bothered checking this entire thread, but I'm pretty sure someone here has already suggested that such an attack was likely.

I remember one of the devs saying something along the lines of "Bring it on! Expect a visit from the FBI."
