Review by Matt Maguire;

Quote:
You all know about Grand Theft Auto by now, right? It’s the gaming franchise that’s singly responsible for all the dead hookers you step over on your way to work, the billion-fold increase in carjackings over the last 13 years, the erosion of moral values everywhere, and cancer.

You probably also know that 2008’s GTA IV was not only the pinnacle of the series, but one of the biggest game releases ever. And because your smug Xbox-owning friends have been pointing and laughing at you since February last year, chances are you’re also aware that there are expansion packs out for GTA IV, but as a PS3 owner, you haven’t been able to play them. Haven’t, that is, until now.

Grand Theft Auto: Episodes From Liberty City contains two stand-alone expansions: The Lost And The Damned and The Ballad Of Gay Tony. We reviewed both when they came out on Xbox and, of course, you could check out those reviews for an overview of the new plots, characters and features.

Too lazy or proud to click on a link to an Xbox review? I’ve got your back.

When you say "Best GTA storyline yet" - which episode?

Hey Therk,

The Lost and the Damned was really enjoyable, but I was referring to The Ballad of Gay Tony storyline. Sorry this wasn't clearer.

Cheers,
Matt

TLATD would get a 4 or 5 from me, there's nothing endearing about the main character at all, he's not funny, he's not smart, he's no underdog, he has zero depth. Usually you have some kind of empathy or relationship with a R* character but TLATD missed that completely. I thought the biker thing would be cool but yeah, it all came out a bit 2D. Story was substandard too. I'd played a little of this previously on the 360 and enjoyed it in a GTA IV sandbox way, but actually sitting down to play it properly and it becomes a chore.

Some good points though, but not enough... main ones being Iggy and price.

TBOGT looks a lot better, moved onto other games but look forward to going back to this one as it looked like it had some humour.

TLAD annoyed me with the sticky bomb mission where you have to blow up the vans. Got sick of that real quick. TBOGT at least allowed you to blow up a train and a plane.

Great review btw _b

You've made me want to play them, this means you did good right?

Top stuff, keep them coming.
