with worldnet speeds have increased...
at times.. have had up to 700kb/s on some cached download. Avg 60kb/s torrents at 8-20kb/s up from 3kb/s avg 12kb/s you tube still crap. gaming is terrible. 1st hop on the tracert is at 70ms+ instead of 35-40. Either getting immense packet loss or throttling, because everything's jumping around too, and getting major warping in BF2142. Been doing more rqing than gaming. |

Not yet. Been flat out with other things to worry about rather than the broadband. Waiting to see what telecom say about worldnets claim its the local exchanges fault. EDIT Just got this today: > Hi > > All your emails have been received by technical support and our > network team is working to resolve local congestion for the normal > ADSL broadband service. As regards the location of 172.17.1.22, you > can see it for yourself if you run 'whois 172.17.1.22' at a command > prompt that it is located in USA. Please refer to my previous message. > > Regards I tried to tell them that its impossible its a USA location because... 1) Its impossible to do 70ms from here ( Rural Canterbury ) to USA, especially on copper. 2) Its a private IP address. They might as well just say my modem-router is located in china... 3) Its the first location outside of the home LAN that is on the route.. This is the tracert I sent. 3 emails and the help desk is still trying to tell me im wrong and that 172.17.1.22 is in the USA and its not a private IP, and it is possible to do 70ms from rural copper Canterbury to USA..
I give up. *EDIT: They are now telling me the latency issues is caused by adsl congestion because it has a lower bandwidth than ADSL2+. Whilst I know that ADSL1 has less possible bandwidth than ADSL2+ , im unsure of it being more prone to congestion. From what I have heard ADSL1 is supposed to be the more stable one out of the DSL family. ^ Can anyone clarify on that ? Last edited 22 Sep 2010 at 7:59 pm by crusader142 |

From your traceroute above the latency doesn't come in until it hits their IP transit providers edge router bdr02.akl02.akl.VOCUS.net.au so it's not Telecom Wholesale's network that is causing increased latency on your ICMP ping packets. Vocus carry their traffic to international destinations.
Just change the 172.17.1.22 hop to something else like 202.169.192.1 they probably won't even realise. |

I should. Will this have any effect do you think ? Their throttling system rapes everything. - maybe the culprit anyway. Last edited 22 Sep 2010 at 9:29 pm by crusader142 |

No idea what 202.169.192.1 is, just made it up.
Ping times on the ON3 traceroute look OK to me ? Yes the one to Hypernia look higher than usual. Telecom's ASAM etc./ADSL1 network does have less capacity than their ISAM/ADSL2+ network because it uses ATM links with less capacity back to the core. Therefore you may run into capacity issues sooner as there is less capacity per subscriber. But as before it doesn't look like that is causing the latency problem here. |

? Im with worldnet I have been communicating with their helpdesk, and with telecom about the "local adsl problem" since they own the exchange. |
