Even then, if a video is not on the cache, it is likely to need to pause to buffer a couple of times.

So, like I said before, if most of your traffic is browsing (that's browsing, not HTTP downloading) and gaming on NZ (and possibly Aussie for FPS) servers, it'll be good. Otherwise, I'd be wary unless you don't mind 20-30kBps speeds.

Pretty dead on here. Most of Youtube is okay during off peak but during peak times it requires alot of buffer. Also international lesser known video sites are really awful.

Gaming is great though, along with other low latency activities.

Not too sure of the point in that though, since it seems to redirect to the original URL if not cached.

Does seem to work though.

As long as it gets served by Orcon's Google Cache... not the proxied request/URL that matters. (works like any other forward proxy).

the host file seems like a better idea imo.

That way, if the video is on the cache it'll be served, otherwise it'll connect to Orcon (afaik)

Well since Thursday night the over all Internet usage across all plans has just had a MASSIVE spike in usage, a VERY unusual spike in traffic. This usually happens when either sudden alot of users sign up (This hasn't happened any more then normal) AYCE plan's I'm not talking about here thats a different story.
The other thing that causes this is school holidays.

Ill try and explain this in little txt graph:

Normal day by day demand is like:
1 2 5 7 10
##################################
#################################
#####################################
###################################

Suddenly Thursday on wards its like this:
###############################################
#################################################
###################################################
We only have this much bandwidth --->|<----

One might say well its obvious slingshot needs to by more bandwidth!
Well its not that easy
1.) We need to find out what caused this sudden spike? Is it going to continue or will it decrease?
2.) Adding bandwidth is not as easy as calling up and saying "Hay increase it please, and they do" no it takes planing signed agreements etc. (ANC Head Office is in HK)
3.) We need to make sure this isent an attack on our network caused by some sort of virus or Windows exploit etc...

Please be assure that the appropriate people have been advised of this unusual increase.

But why would you want to when Oversi (the cache) serves you low quality when you specifically requested 720p?

Hosts file basically sends a normal HTTP request but to a different IP address as specified in the hosts file. The cache and nonxt entries are there to stop it the request falling back to other/international servers. Because this is a normal HTTP request it could be intercepted by DPI/Oversi.
Proxy method sends a HTTP proxy request to Orcon's server for specified URLs.

That's not what I meant. It doesn't seem to cache the 720p videos, but neither does it replace them with low quality ones.

What I was saying before is that it only seems to cache the default quality.

What did you expect?

still 3-4x dial up speed is acceptable? lol NOT!

I've pulled out of the contract inside a week & I already have it from a justified source that their ETF won't stand up, still, I'm looking forward to the fight because they won't get a cent.

Just another nz isp failing their customers miserably whilst ripping them off!

Oh so you reckon speeds are gonna go up if I wait around eh?
sure righto!

I expected shit speeds & they didn't disappoint :/ it's also a fkn insult to 21st century technology.

Least I ain't hanging around taking dat shit, be back on full speed in 2 days at no extra cost & will suit me just fine.

I thought getting raped on bigtime was bad but slingshit are reaching for the lube! 8o

So um, I was complaining on the SS forums along with others about pages not loading. Today that is fixed and my file transfers were going pretty damn quick too. I am talking over 600kb/s. Probably wouldn't have been silly to wait it out a little longer.

Although obviously we won't know how long that will last. But you gotta give them time to actually get things up and running.

Telstraclear is decent for gaming. Although I cant comment on consoles. I play PC only.
