I'll get this started but feel free to add your own helpful tips and information for new players to the game.

I know some of this stuff may have being posted in the main thread, but its stuck under a cluster**** of other posts and is hard to find, so let's do this:




HELPFUL TIPS

1) Turning on AA

Until the client is updated with AA, this is how you can turn it on: You may have to turn on "show hidden files/folders"

Go To: (C):users/name/appdata/local/swtor/swtor/settings and find the file client_settings

Open it and under the Renderer tab add the line "AntiAliasingLevel = 2" (without the quotes). 2 can be changed to 4/8 etc depending on the level of AA that you desire.

Note: Forcing AA on in this manner may cause some transparency issues, but it will smooth out jagged edges. If you're having issues opening the file try using Notepad ++



2) Resetting the UI

If you run into issues with the UI like elements dissapearing, things just breaking or getting stuck in general:

You can reset the UI by simply pressing: CTRL + U twice



3) Hiding/Showing the UI

To turn off all UI elements (useful when taking screenshots of your chracter or the landscape):

Just press ALT + Z, press it again to turn on the UI.



4) Displaying your FPS in-game

Ctrl + Shift + F will display the FPS in the bottom left of the screen

UI COMMANDS


/t or /tell – Sends a /tell to another player
/whisper – Sends a whisper to another player
/reply or /r – Reply to a whisper
/who – Opens the Who window
/group – Invites target player to group
/invite – Invites player to group
/stuck – Helps dislodge a player from environment
/bug – Allows player to lodge a bug complaint/report
/logout – Logs player out of game and back to Character Select screen
/quit – Quits the game completely
/dismiss – Dismisses your companion
/nameplates – Shows player/npc nameplates
/say – Switches outgoing chat to Say, only players in local vicinity can hear you
/yell – Yells in chat, displayed in red text. This can be heard in a large area. Cross-faction /yell is possible
/general – Speak in General chat, this can be heard throughout the entire planet/flashpoint/instance
/trade – Speak in Trade chat
/pvp – Speak in PvP chat
/1 – General Chat shortcut
/2 – PvP Chat shortcut
/3 – Trade Chat shortcut
/4 – User chat channel
/5 – User Chat channel
/6 – User Chat channel

/quickbars – Toggle additional quickbars in UI
/coverbar – Toggle the cover bar in UI
/emote – Allows the player to write his own custom emote (ie. “/emote punts the Ewok” would read “PlayerName punts the Ewok”)
/subtitles – Displays subtitles during mission cutscenes and other scenes.
/dnd – Flags you as Do Not Disturb. Useful when you want to be left alone in the galaxy
/inspect – Inspects another player
/selljunk – Commands your companion to go sell all your gray items
/guild – Chat only to your guild
/gsetrank – Sets player rank in guild
/gquit – Leave your current guild
/gdisband – Disband your guild if you are leader
/promote – Promotes player in guild
/officer – Speak in officer only chat
/ginvite – Invites target player to guild
/gremove – Removes target player from guild
/duel – Request a duel from target player
/friend – Add a player to your friends list
/follow – Follow target player
/date – Displays Date information
/roc – Raid Officer chat
/flag – Flag yourself for PvP

Recommend skipping crew skills to save credits for mounts while leveling. You will find yourself short of 100k come mount 2.0 time.

Personal preference however, some may prefer having skills leveled up to fast travel.

Use a datacron guide right from level 1 - helps you grab them along the way and not have to go back for them.

You can hit 'esc' in cutscenes/conversations and go back to the beginning to change your options

there is no lick such a sad day for human kind.

It's definitely an exploit. There is another one that you can use to get your companion to full affection, I won't post the details here .

Grouping bugs I've had are:
- Galaxy Map (in starship) bugs out while grouped.
- Group chat bugs out, noone can read your text and you cant read anyone elses.

Simple solution is to break group then join it again, seems to fix it.

did anyone get that aa config edit to work?

swtor.exe craps out after i launch that bad boi

rig is defs able to run it at themans quality

ive had mine running at 4x with no problems, bumped it up to 8x last night, while in game so i will need to see if it loads tonight.

Im running at 8x with out an issue, prob want to back up the file first and then make your changes

The official forum users say that some effects like lightsabers or holograms don't display properly with the ini AA option but I worked around this by forcing AA in my GPU driver control panel or if you are using AMD use RadeonPro and make a profile for SWTOR. Even an AA of 2x makes the game look MUCH MUCH nicer then 0x.

If you are running of a low spec computer, changing the grpahics settings to High, applying, changing it back to Low and applying again will give you a huge boost to FPS.

Was running on my wifes crappy laptop while on holiday (with like intel terribad gfx card) at around 2-10 fps. Did this and now it runs about 20-40 FPS average.

Improving your game look (do this at your own risk, be warned, you may get graphic glitches):

go to your game settings ini file (same place as turning on AA) or put this %LOCALAPPDATA%\SWTOR\swtor\settings into a folder bar.

back up your game_settings.ini file.

paste this into your game_settings.ini, save and your done.

i have removed pretty much all the Jaggies using 16x AS, 12x AA and it looks awesome but i have graphic glitches, so you will need to tweak it to find what you like.

NOTE: this may stop your game loading, if it does you change back to the old settings, OR go hunting for the line of code thats causing it to not load (usually this is the Anti Aliasing)

If I try enabling AA with the config file, the game won't boot up. After a login into the client, I get a 2 seconds black screen, then then its back to desktop with no swtor.exe running.

Seems to work for some, not for me.

AA in the ini file works sweet for me, but sometimes in groups, i cant see holograms in cut scenes, thats all. But that's actually really irritating, so I'll just wait till they fix it.

Also, the last boss in Foundry; Revan - to prevent him going immune and bugging out, you need to stop DPS when he casts Force Storm and Rock Fall (last ~15% of his health).

^^ Learnt that the hard way. On my first kill, we just decided to not use any dots during the last part of the fight, it worked.
