Final Fantasy XIV 2.0: A Realm Reborn

Since the FF forum is closed, I guess we will have to talk about 2.0 here.

Anyway, I got in the Alpha and they've made it into World of Final Fantasy, which isn't such a bad thing.

Looks like Naoki Yoshida figured if you can't beat em, join in. Sadly the innovations are gone but don't fix what isn't broke, I guess.

    Anyone else in?

Never understood the appeal of the MMO FF's. The only thing going for FF is the unique stories/characters and the combat systems. Most of that is missing in the MMO games. Now if they released the non MMO games on PC we might be talking, but sadly they're console exclusive for some retarded reason.

I watched the following video posted by GP the other day and it looked like just another bloody generic WoW clone. Why bother? Hotkey cooldown, dice-roll combat; your standard f*cking "kill X number monsters" and FedEx quests.

Secret World is now sub free (and not severely gimped like SWTOR F2P is), has a narrative written by the amazing Ragnar Tornquist and actually tries to do new some things instead of being a standard WoW clone, why bother with this ****?

Because some people like Final Fantasy?

No, it isn't. Final Fantasy is a series with storytelling and having a cast of diverse characters as one of its core elements. This is WoW with chocobo mounts.

Well, i'm having fun. I think i'll pick up the PS3 version as well when it releases so me and my fiance can play together.

I'm going to check out The Secret World one weekend when they cut the price a little further - it looks good.

And eventually moogles, and Dragoons, and a Blizzaga spell, Omega battle, something something crystals, and Tonberrys, level up chime, airships, Cid etc.

I managed to play FFXI for 9 years, not because I picked it up on a recommendation or just randomly wanted a MMO, I played it solely because it was a FF game and I like FF stuff. I expect there are a few fans who may be interested in XIV for the same reason.

I do get where you are coming from, I just think Vana'diel was awesome, the lore, the NPCs, the world, the music, all some of the best in FF games. The main mission stories were fantastic (if you could stick it out). Not all hope for XIV in that sense is lost yet, if they can't follow XI's suit then yea thats their fail.

Gameplay wise? Well, I don't know about that I will watch the thread of people actually playing it with interest to see.

There were compelling stories in FFXI Online, the problem was actually completing them due to the large amounts of time you needed to invest. One positive aspect of the slowness of FFXI was that it left more time for socialising. This is something I find is left out of WOW at the moment because of how quickly everything is done.

I bother with FF MMO's because I grew up playing FF games and I love the atmosphere that's created, the music and environments, the jobs and the nostalgia.

They tried to do something a little different with FFXIV 1.0 but that didn't work out, so they're adopting what has worked from successful MMO's. I'm interested in seeing if I'll like it.

Here's a look at gathering and crafting from the alpha:

Leveling isn't a chore anymore, it's really quite quick. What server did you play on?

    Here's another update.

I might be transferring a 55 MNK back to Leviathan soon. I played on that world as Valheru ages ago.

I told myself I'd come back to FFXI when either the new expansion hits or they added Cait Sith for SMN whichever came first....... but who knows when the heck they'll decide to do that, its been put off so much (plus its prolly just gonna be stupid anyway) so oh well *shrugs*.

I'm probably better off broken free from the game's grip now anyway lol.

I'm surprised that Deathguise isn't feeling butthurt from not having Alpha access, due to his sense of entitlement from being the greatest Red Mage fisherman in all of Vanadiel or some ****.
