    Settlers of Catan [Boardgame Forums]

Was looking to buy some expansions for the core game, but dont know where in Wellington to find it. The store in the BNZ centre is long gone.

    Any ideas?

There was a hobbyist store in Midcity on Willis St (the same complex housing JB Hi-Fi). I have no idea if it's still there nor if they sell board games. Also try Pulsar Max in Manners Mall.

http://www.mk1.co.nz have Settlers of Catan and expansions, but their online store only does comics so you'll have to request a personal order (http://www.mk1.co.nz/contact/). Free shipping nationwide, though.

Stock just before Christmas - http://www.mk1.co.nz/blog/mk1-x-mas-board-games/

IQ Toys also stock them. Slightly more expensive than Mighty Ape though.

I know it might sound like an "out there" suggestion, but have you tried Toyworld on Balance street? AFAIK they stock quiet a few "hobbyist" boardgames, including Settlers of Catan, and expansions

Yeah Toyworld stocks alot of boardgames, been a while since I was in Wellington but don't they have a 'Mind Games' store in CBD somewhere? I live in Aus now and get alot of my games from online american sites...

I will check out Toyworld. I would buy online, but I need them by Wednesday and well its a holiday so I doubt that will happen.
Wargames Supply closed about a year ago so it seems that toyworld is my only option

Still there last time I checked (early Jan prob) and they do sell board games. Seen Settlers of Catan there before too. Was gonna post the same thing! They're really helpful too, can get stuff in for you.

I've played Carcassonne a couple of times back in the days.

Recently picked up Dominion which is quite fun and easy to get the hang of.

Check out Kingdom Death if you like boardgames as well.

Yeah, I play it every now and then, mainly 2 player games. Otherwise I'm enjoying Power Grid and Agricola the most at the moment. Oh, and Race for the Galaxy (although noone ever wants to play this )

For what it's worth I don't think the Settlers expansions are any good

I would advise people to AVOID Mighty Rape whenever possible.

There are a couple of great NZ online board game specialist stores that offer fantastic service, far better than I've ever had from The Rape:
    - The Game Depository stocks it for $70
    - Seriously Board stocks it for $76

I got my base Catan set from Toy World with 30% off about 10 months ago. I also agree about the expansions; they make the game too fiddly IMO. I don't even like the 6 player expansion

Also not a fan of the expansions. Have been looking at getting carcassonne but dunno if flatmates would be interested in playing it.

I know that feeling, it's a bit quieter than Catan because it doesn't have that trading aspect that gets a little crazy sometimes. If you are looking for another game that is fairly easy to introduce to 'non-gamers' but is an absolute riot you should get Bohnanza. It is played with cards but it feels more like a board game than a card game and is a WHOLELOTTAFUN! I would go as far to say that it is more fun than Catan

    ... oh and it's cheap!

I love Cities and Knights. It makes for some epic games. Seafearers is decent, but havnt tried any others.

Play boardgames pretty regularly (couple times a week), don't play Catan much (in part because I am terrible). I buy all mine from Seriously Board.

There is a meet up page if people are interested.

    Why is that?

Other than their "discounts" they seem to be a pretty good company.
