    Yes, there are many. OpenCanvas is a free one which is quite popular.

    opencanvas is great for beginners, like me . However for the advanced brushes/effects I suggest Corel Painter and Adobe Photoshop, much steeper learning curve but its what the pros use.

    then pick up a wacom and your set !

    pretty nice work there hunter, I'm tempted to switch to photoshop for easier color blending.

    OpenCanvas is great for anybody actually. I would advise you, and anybody else for that matter to stay again from blending tools - they're horrible, for drawing and painting anyway.
    This is where OpenCanvas shines. It has a simple soft smear brush which both Photoshop and Painter lacks, amazingly.

    The screenshot doesn't really make it look that good at all but I converted the map csloodstrike from Counter-Strike to Medal of Honor: Allied Assault. I had to re-texture it along with lights etc
