Apparently the books were pretty good, I don't read that sort of thing so I don't know.

But the TV series was never a great work of art, just a well financed fantasy.

I'm not sure how anyone thought the ending would be wonderful, since the series had a heap of flaws.
That's a sensible way to look at it..no matter how great the books and series are, they're not exactly life changing. One thing is for sure, the next thing will come along and we'll all get sucked into the hype again

IDGAF if people's "arcs" aren't completed or the season was somewhat rushed. That's real life, sometimes the hero gets out done by his cousin who saves the day.

The problem is all the illogical shit and total disregard for the attention to character motivations that had made the show so great in the first place. E.g the red wedding made sense in retrospect: it was kind of inevitable in a way. But many characters in this story are clearly smarter than the writers, which causes big plot holes. The 3 cleverest schemers in the show (Littlefinger, Varys, Tyrion) all ended up acting like total morons.

The amount of teleporting around demonstrated their lazy writing as well. Euron just happens to swim up to Jamie at the exact right time (in a bay that in previous seasons resulted in Davos getting stranded), Dany beyond the wall, basically every army in the last 3 seasons etc.

It's really obvious where they've departed from the books.

Oh ok do you mind explaining the ending then? I was certain they were all dead & stuck in purgatory lol
Once they died and we saw them in flash forwards, that was purgatory and they eventually clicked where they knew each other from (the island) and united to "move on" and leave purgatory. The island and it's mysteries for the most part have never been explained to this day, lots of guesses and theories but no confirmation.

All the island stuff happened, the flash sideways were set after everyone had died in the future and was them all linking back up in the afterlife.

Leland Palmer killed Laura whilst he was possessed by Killer Bob.

It is funny how the Bran part of this WTF parody makes more sense than what actually happened:

Two of the planned prequel series might be in development hell now, oh dear.

Maybe I'm wrong, I interpreted it as sarcasm - he's actually mentioned in the book a LOT.
I don't understand what you mean. I mean the book Sam put down in front of Tyrion, not the real life book GRRM wrote.
Sam isn't sarcastically funny so that doesn't make sense. Tyrion was visibly annoyed by it. So I don't understand what the point of the scene was.

Was it ever explained what Bran was up to during the battle at Winterfell? That seems to have been forgotten about, and it really annoys me.

It was explained in the prior episode. Basically he was bait for the Night King.

And he used the ravens to get the NK's attention

Thank god there is someone here protecting the little guy - behemoth production companies.
Point is though, if you're not even paying for a product, do you have a right to complain about it?

what if someone buys all the merch but doesn't pay to watch the series? Or vice versa? Does it make them any more or less valid?

    Bit of a rabbit hole.

People complain about gpforumz all the time

Anyway, the biggest money generator for GoT is the brand, not the HBO subscriptions. More eyes = more money

HBO definitely aren't short of cash from it, they were willing to fund movies for it had D&D want to do that - so you're are looking at least a couple of hundred million for that.

Ah I must have missed that part, that makes sense then.

Don't be a dick, I was just wondering what happened with that part in particular. I'm not REEE JORAH SHOULDA KILLED DANY like the rest of the internet is.

Probably one of their biggest earners. If not the biggest.

I liked the last 2 episodes, it went about as well as possible given the shonky leadup. You could tell it was finally hitting back on grrm's story the way it wrapped up.

Still a lot of questions though obviously, like what's the deal with the 3 eyed Raven and the children of the forest? There must be way more going on with Bran, I don't believe all the time spent with him learning his leet powers was just padding. As soon as the show moved away from the books they basically cut his storyline and as a result of that it doesn't make a lot of sense for everyone to be so chill about him being king.

Where the hell is Howland Reed? I was 100% convinced he was the high septon but even if he wasn't he should have had some role to play since he was the only survivor from the tower of joy and knower of the truth about JS. His two kids played a serious business part in escorting Bran to his destiny.

I could go on but it's clear we're not going to have all the answers until fat boy finishes writing the books.

My favourite character in the whole show (great actor too), I just wish he had gotten more scenes with Tormund:
