I see the Nightbreed is not on the list. I've just signed the petition to get The Cabal Cut released.

    See here:

    http://www.occupymidian.com/

This is the long lost version by Clive Barker before it was sliced and diced by the studio excutives.

I bump this thread 'cause it's pretty good aye. Good suggestions and nice long lists. Haven't recently watched any outstanding horrors (not that I recall atm anyways), but Sinister was alright especially if you liked Insidious.

Anyone got any new horrors they enjoyed?

It's not out yet but I'm looking forward to this http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/S-VHS_%28film%29, Safe Haven sounds amazing and has been getting rave reviews as the best horror piece (short or otherwise) in years.

OK as requested here are some recommendations of horror flicks I've seen since last post (hopefully no repeats) and some I may have missed

    (* indicates a film I found shocking and/or disturbing)
(** indicates a film I found scary or tense. Supernatural and haunting movies are the usual suspects here. I am more prone to be affected by these than anything else so take with grain of salt)
Everything else was either gross, gory, fun, or generally just enjoyable

Stitches (Ross Noble as an undead killer clown)
    V/H/S
    Berberian Sound Studios (BRILLIANT!)
    Chained*
    Citadel**
    Exit Humanity
    Mothers Day (remake)
    Fathers Day (top tier Troma)
Grabbers (kinda Tremors-esk but with squid thingies and drunk Irish folk)
    Grave Encounters**
    Grave Encounters 2**
    The Woman in Black**
    John Dies as the End
    American Mary
    Juan of the Dead
    Sinister**
Some Guy Who Kills People. very fun
    Lovely Molly
    The Innkeepers**
    The Pact
[REC]3 (not as good as 1 or 2 but still great fun.
    The Collection. Popcorn horror porn.

I'll second Berberian Sound Studios and The Pact. I'd also like to add:
We Are What We Are (2010 but still fairly recent)

I think there are quite a few others but I'm drawing a blank atm for some reason.

Is that the one with Toby Jones as a sound editor? Weird movie. I liked where it went but it didn't totally work for me. Compelling watch though.

^Yeah thats the one. Amazing sound design and I'm surprised nobody has made a film that taps into the art of foley before. Felt like some kind of Lynchian nightmare, basically ignores traditional narrative in favour building this suffocating sense of dread. Definitely worked a treat for me.

It makes a great 2nd film in a double feature with any of Argento's earlier work in particular Suspiria, his work with colour and tone in that film is the perfect contrast to the audio focus in BSS.

I'm watching this now and it's nothing like Rec 1 or 2. It's a generic zombie movie.

I'm not even sure if this actually is Rec 3. It's at a Wedding and there are zombies that look differently in mirrors lol.

Yeah it makes significant changes in tone and execution, but I like Zombie films a lot and its a well made one... and the chick is fkn hot. I actually enjoyed the move away from the found footage execution as its tired now and played out. Then again REC 1, and 2 are 2 of the few examples of it being done really well.

Yeah this is a good one, a solid thriller with a mean twist at the end.

Rec 3 actually begins with handheld camera footage but it gets destroyed early on in the film, informing the audience it's gonna be traditional camera work from here on out. Generic zombie flick, nothing groundbreaking.

+1 for American Mary I really enjoyed it.

Watched American Mary. Nothing flashy but still a worthwhile watch. The main actress is pretty good. Right through I kept thinking Mary Kate Winstead would've suited the main role.

American Mary wasn't bad but a little strange. The general feel of the movie to me was not unlike Excision which I also found good.

They both aren't horror though, I reckon.

I watched Farmhouse last night, it could have been really good but was a bit predictable and fell a little flat. Nice ideas were contained within though.

My recommendation at this point in time from what I've watched recently would be Chained, Sinister and V/H/S.

Yeah, it's pretty hard to find a decent horror these days. You end up watching a whole lot of shit to find the gems. Kinda over it really.

Havn't seen V/H/S or sinister, i thought Insidious was okay.. will give these a go.

I like to consider myself a horror film buff so although many of them do suck they usually have a redeeming quality somewhere, even if it is only that it isn't mainstream ****ing tripe.

Should just watch the old stuff if you're struggling to find stuff from the modern day.
