    Suggestions for Horror / Thrillers

I'm trying to find some good Horror / Thrillers for a few friends to watch. Some that actually freak the **** you out.

I haven't managed to find any based on 'ratings' So I thought I would come here to find some.

By Horror / Thriller I don't want like Gore & Massacre typed films. More leaning towards super natural.

The Strangers is the only movie in a couple years that's genuinely given me the creeps.

    Oh and the Silent House.

Personally, one of my all-time favorite movies (across all genres) is The Descent. It is gory in places, but that's not the main drawcard.

Hausu, Deep Red, Suspiria, Re-Animator, The Story of Ricky, Videodrome and of course Braindead are all worth checking out.

Thanks for the suggestions, @Necon those seem like really Gory movies (?) of which I didn't want. But thanks any ways.

I've seen a bit of Story Of Ricky Oh. That was quite hilarious.

Love the genre, even though it is completely starved of quality films.

You probably seen them, but The Shining and The Thing are must watch imo.
    Bram Stoker's Dracula is fun.

Japanese horrors have a good creep factor:

    Yeah that was creeptastic.

"Imprint" was another disturbing piece of work but other than that I have only seen 13 Assassins. He has so many films so could you recommend some of the better ones?

Hell yes. The Strangers is an epic movie. It's actually chilling and isn't the usual crap of just having jump out bits every 10 seconds.

As already mentioned Crazies remake, The Thing (both remake and original). Event Horizon (might be too gory), The Amityville Horror Turistas, A Lonely Place to Die (thriller), Identity, Vacancy, Carriers, Joyride, Cube.

Too gory but Martyrs and Switchblade Romance.. Original Saw.

The Bird People in China is considered to be one of his best. From there it depends on how dark you're willing to get and which genres you prefer.

Having read the synopsis of The Strangers on Wikipedia, it seems they'll make any crap with no story these days.

    Spoiler:

I quite liked "kwaidan" which is just a set of ghost stories put into one film

A Korean thriller which is not bad is "Memories of Murder"

Yes very (very, very) creepy. No my fave Takashi movie though, as I think it's too fractured, and much prefer One Missed Call (stay far away from the sequels).

Evil Dead, Evil Dead 2. (Army of Darkness is great too, but not exactly horror)

Let the Right One In (Watch the pretty good US remake 'Let Me In" first, since the original is still much better IMO)

    Ringu (Ring - Japanese)

Night of the Living Dead (I prefer the colour remake on the whole, but the Original is a must watch too)

Dawn of the Dead (Original all the way)

    Day of the Dead (ORIGINAL!!)

    Land of the Dead

Return of the Living Dead - I also love the sequel, though again, not great horror

Nightmare on Elm St (original) - I love the sequels too, but not really because they are great horror

Pan's Labyrinth, The Devil's Backbone, Cronos, The Orphanage, Mimic (Or just Guillermo del Toro in general)

Meh, that's all I can be bothered tying ATM. I think all the above are pretty good films though.

Welcome mr core. Your chosen speciality subject is quality horror films.
Please list as many good quality horror films as you can regardless of subgenre
    Please begin

    (* indicates a film I found shocking and/or disturbing)
(** indicates a film I found scary or tense)
Everything else was either gross, gory, fun, or generally just enjoyable
Not all are strictly horror, but those that are not are still horrific
I really could keep going. Horror is my fave genre. Everything from early 20th century german expressionists, to 50's shlock, to 70's grindhouse to 80's gore, to modern films. the happening is alright if you like lots of nose flare but quite a interesting concept not to gorey (yes it's directed by m night shammy but it doesn't has those annoying twists at the end)

Chatroom is rather creepy (stars the dude from kick ass Aaron johnson i think it is) Directed by the ringu fella .

Awesome film. Personally I hated the remake, but some people seem to enjoy it.

This is a decisively odd film with some unsettling parts. Not entirely sure I could recommend it though. (again the remake sucked balls. I'm pretty sure most people would agree.)
