    In reality, the owner of the tattoo artwork is the creator of the work, unless there is a written assignment of the copyright in the tattoo art.
    So you don't actually own the tattoo, you're just paying for the privilege of using it? Sounds familiar.

    So if I buy a painting from a local gallery and hang it on my wall I have to ask the painter if I can show it to my family and friends who visit my house? I call B.S.

    Essentially, the same could be said for any tattoo, someone, somewhere is bound to have it.

    especially ones from bands etc.
