Look at you, hacker - System Shock 3!

OMG, the developers of Underworld: Ascendant (aka Ultima Underworld 3) are making System Shock 3! So the developers from Looking Glass who worked on SS1 are now making SS3. (FYI, System Shock is basically Ultima Underworld in space).

This one was alittle too BIG in news to leave it just sitting over in the System Shock forum.

Otherside Entertainment released this little countdown teaser:
    http://www.othersidetease.com/p089gg.php

(which incidentally is done in the exact font as the original System Shock 1 box art)

    Which turns into this:

And this thread popped up on another forum:
    http://www.rpgcodex.net/forums/index...inment.105183/

    It's happening guys .

And if your not already aware. Otherside Entertainment is composed of a vast majority of former Looking Glass Studios (makers of System Shock 1 & 2) employees. So there is not a better studio out there to make this game.

Been meaning to play SS1+2 for a while now... still worth giving them a fling with mods etc?
I have a feeling they would be up my alley.

Both are awesome, but tbqh SS1 is creaking under its age. There is an official remake in the works so play that instead when it drops.
Check out some early screens http://www.polygon.com/2015/11/25/98...first-look-art

SS2 however is great. Buy, play, love!

Playing SS1 & 2 is now easier than ever.

    SS1:-
Just buy it from Steam or GOG and it now controls like SS2. (SS2 was literally SS1's UI split into two to accommodate mouse look aiming). If you're cool with Doom era sprite FPSes then you should be sweet.

    SS2:-

How timely. SS2 is currently on sale for $1.49 USD from GOG.

    EDIT:
Even better deal, you can pick up SS2 Steam key for $3 USD alongside some other cool FPS games like Xeno Clash and Betrayer in this game bundle!

A bit, but nothing that will ruin the experience. They are separate games and while 2 is a continuation of the Shodan craziness you dont need to play 1 to fully enjoy 2 and the intro for SS2 will give you all the info you need.

Warren Spector reveals why he's making games again

Good to see a master game designer working on the type of games that he pioneered. We need more Immersive Sims in the world.

Starbreeze are publishing System Shock 3 - $12m deal and all is a go, jesus....Warren Spector at the helm too, this sounds pretty bloody good

Now, I still need to get around to playing SS1+2, but with the remake on the way and Prey about (for them vibes), I reckon I'll be in good stead once this eventually comes out. This fills a little hole in my gaming heart that was ripped out when Square Enix pulled their publishing pecker out of Deus Ex (RIP).

I'd say skip SS1 and wait for the remake, SS1 dated terribly.

There's no "games were better in those days" factor with SS1, it was fairly shallow in regards to game systems. SS1 is in-line with a modern streamlined, mass-market audience AAA game than SS2, which was a fully blown RPG.

Otherside buying back the publishing rights to SS3 from Starbreeze.

Until they patch Underworld Ascendant into not being shit I'll not be giving these guys the time of day.

Nevermind SS3, Nightdive Studios has a modern System Shock in alpha.
