    Hyundai A-League 17/18

Season gets underway in a couple months.

Phoenix had a 0-0 hit out against Western Suburbs last night, Rossi red carded

Hope we can pull some results this season. Apprehensive, however.

They lost 5-6 players at the end of last season, so I was hoping that the new coach would bring some flashy dutch players to the club as he may have a bit of inside knowledge on the up and coming players in the lower levels of the European leagues.

He has had a few short coaching stints in the last few years, so will be interesting to see how he pans out here.

A-League is a pretty average comp at best, what makes it even worse is that the Phoenix have basically played rubbish most seasons... hopefully Darije Kalezic can make big improvements, if he doesn't we will miss the playoffs yet again.

If the coach plays Durante & Parkhouse at the back we will be in real trouble, both are that slow it's not funny, just too easy for opposition strikers to run past them.

Clearly If you don't have a good defence in any team sport you're never going to do any good in a comp, we need to ditch that ****in' zone defence, it just allows the opposition to move the ball around freely, allowing them to hold onto the ball for long periods giving them confidence as well, sure use zone defence if you're struggling to get back to cover.

Surely defending is about cutting down the oppositions time & space on the ball which also gives you a lot more chances of winning back possession, so would mainly like us to shadow players with man-to-man marking system, staying on the balls of your feet when need be, which allows you to move quickly in any direction to stick to the player you're marking.... be interesting to see how this coach goes.

He's actually signed for Team Wellington and we have Ali Abbas as a 1 year 'injury' replacement (not sure how we swung that one)

Phoenix look pretty good on attack, defence is still pretty poor though.

Haha I tuned in when we were 3-0 up. Game ended 3-3, classic.

New keeper is apparently still in highschool? How is a 17 year old starting for the Nix? Is he actually that good or are we just completely scraping the bottom of the barrel?

Based on the performances from him thus far, bottom of the barrel. He has no strength, absolute pussy in the air, poor positioning, can't catch.

So why is he playing professional sport? I'm sure there's a keeper playing for one of the national league sides who could play? Is this kid first choice or is he filling in for someone?

I don't really follow the Nix that closely.

Moss left with Merrick to the Jets and the new coach doesn't rate Italiano - only other option

The new Phoenix coach has shown he has **** all to offer, our defence is just as dreadful as last year.

Watched a Phoenix match for the first time in weeks, they had a 2 zip lead against Melb Vic & ended up losing the bloody game, if you can't defend properly you never going to compete well in any comp, ffs! why do they always give the opposition 2 or 3 metres of free space to move in just outside the box or inside it to do what they want to, pathetic ! the idiots need to wake up & mark a man each very tightly in the box whether it's from a corner, cross or through ball.

Holy **** this team is bad. How is Parkhouse a professional athlete? Do they train on defending? Can any of them kick off their weaker foot?

I just watched parts of The Phoenix game. Wow, they are Warriors level bad, like really bad. I'll be surprised if they remain in the competition.

What even makes things worse is it's a very mediocre comp at best & the Phoenix are the worst team in it by some distance... don't know how long this current coach has signed on for ? need to get rid of him though, pay the idiot off if they have to.

No, but they're excellent at giving the opposition plenty of time & space to have free shots at goal

    Ridenton butchered that win.

Can't just blame Ridenton for us not winning the match... a few others stuffed up really good opportunities to smack the ball in the back of the net too.

    get rid of Rossi

Rossi is a dirty cheating slow liability. Get rid of this cheat ASAP. Almost cost the Nix the game last night. It never ceases to amaze me how at a set piece, the free kick seldom gets past the very first defender. And the Nix defense is dreadful...Durante and Rossi need zimmer frames.

Phoenix have performed much better in the last few games, defence is still a big worry though... having useless slow twats at the back like Durantee is always going to give opposition strikers plenty of opportunities to have a crack at our goal, our marking is piss poor, lacks urgency & we need backs with more pace as well.
