I always enjoyed Red Alert: Retaliation on the original Playstation, many a weekend was spent with my mate and a link cable. One of the only joys of small disk capacity too, allied missions on one and soviet on the other, meant 2 people could play with only one copy of the game needed.

Presumably it won't follow Relic's formula of no city-building? I'm actually really optimistic about this.

Curiously, the trailer shows the eras covered by the previous games. I'd personally rather they stuck to one era, rather than trying to do Rise of Nations.
I took it to mean they were moving forward to a new setting but I didn't really watch it so eh.

Not too hopeful for this one.

I mean yea with how MS has been operating lately I was surprised it wasn't announced on Xbox one but then anyone with a brain would see that it would be a bad idea. The series does have some history on console i.e age of empires 2 on ps2 and what not but really its a born and bread pc RTS.

Reply-necro, but that'd be a bummer. I'm really not that interested in something in the more modern era.

First, we now have a release date for Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition, which will be out on November 14 on the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass for PC, and—the big one—Steam. And second, the original Age of Empires: Definitive Edition, released in 2018 on the Microsoft Store, is also now available on Steam.

Age of Empires: Definitive Edition also supports "cross-network" play between the Microsoft Store and Steam. If you already own the game on the Microsoft Store you'll need to download a new client to be able to hook up with your Steam pals, but it's free and all saves, campaign progress, and achievements will carry over.
Not AoE 4 related but I'll just chuck it in here anyway since MS have some kind of aversion to Age 4 news atm. Age 2: DE looks only a tiny bit better than Age 2:HD, might be able to get the same effect with mods.

In a recent interview with German magazine GameStar, Xbox marketing manager Aaron Greenberg has revealed that Age of Empires 4 gameplay footage will be shown off for the first time to the public on November 14, at XO19 event in London. On that day Age of Empires 2: Definitive Edition will launch on the Microsoft Store, Xbox Game Pass for PC (Beta) and Ultimate, and Steam.
After missing two Inside Xbox shows that promised 'Major AoE news', I'm starting to doubt their announcements somewhat but I'll guess we'll wait and see...
