This is my second account, as I lost the password to my original account from 2000

You being at intermediate when I made this account isn't any better. I was the same age you are now...

Well in that case I'd be in my third year of primary school

True. I blame the air-con induced headache I have for calculating that incorrectly - I feel so much younger now

Is it just me or do those glacier pics look like bad photoshop jobs?

They do, but I recall them reporting on that in the news last year, or the year before. So it is legit.

I've never seen a glacier before if only we had an expert here to weigh in

Local glacer viewer here; it's real . The Tasman Glacier on the other side is currently retreating at a rate of ~500m a year (wiki). That's started happening so recently that the sign up there from a decade ago still says it's retreating at "only" 100m a year, which blew my partner's brain apart when she read it. We've been there twice since moving to the South Island; I genuinely couldn't believe how far back it was when we were there a second time.

My solution to global warming is to send a big disc into space that we can control, which artificially blocks a sliver of sunlight from hitting us, simulating being a bit further away from the sun and thus cooling the planet. Egon Musk get onto it bitch

Don’t get me wrong, I know they’re retreating, the black edges look shopped af is all. It should be covered in the local dirt and almost blend in at the edges. That just looks wrong and done for journalistic effect.

Should look like this (which is a shot of Fox glacier)

I assumed the shots were taken from a stationary potato quality observation cam.

I don't want to alarm anyone but the mountain behind the glacier also appears to have disappeared in the last decade

You know we’re in trouble when even the mountains are retreating.
