People stirring up fake shit with +58 72 number

    Hi Gp,

Hoping someone can provide a bit of help here, I'm trying to get back with my girl, and am due to meet with her tomorrow. She has just received a message saying that I cheated on her from a +58 72 number on WhatsApp. I've googled this and cant find any info. Is there a messaging service or anyway to trace or get further info on this number? Its causing me unnecessary drama ahead of my meeting.

    Heh, that's risky.

5872 is the generic number for a service that sells automated text messaging. I haven't actually looked at which one but have received them from several different legitimate companies.

Which means they're using their work software, hence the risky.

Just had a look, 5872 has texted me for Snap Fitness, Lime and Zoom Travel Insurance. So looks like they're targeting small to medium business.

If you can find out whom it is and where he works and make a complaint, they could probably look up the records and he'd get in shit for using work resources to send stuff like that.

Looks like Countdown also uses it.

What is the messaging service provider called so I could get them to trace where the message was sent from to my girls number?

It's used by legitimate NZ businesses, so presumably NZ. Maybe contact one of those companies and make up a lie? "I received a message from this number saying they're you. Is that correct? Oh, it's automated software, which software is that? I wouldn't mind getting in touch and verifying with them."

The article I linked says Countdown are dealing with scam texts. So just pretend you're suspicious it's a scam text.

Yeah, good luck. It'll probably be a provider like bulletin.net and they're not exactly going to release account info.

It's surprisingly easy getting information from people.

I remember when I was like 16 and recovery questions were all the rage, I'd just jump on MSN messenger and ask people their recovery questions and received perfect answers more often than not.

Somewhat related but also unrelated, someone has made a blank profile and has been harrassing me on Instagram, posting on pics of my bf saying that he slept with some girl on tour. I trust him completely when he says he didn't, so I can only assume the blank profile was made by the girl in question trying to make me jealous or something. Strange thing is the comments posted would disappear in like an hour so when it's gone it's hard to report to Instagram for harrassment. They posted the exact same comment twice, on different pics of the bf, and both comments disappeared a while after. I found the girl he/she was commenting about and sent her a non-threatening message but she never replied. MYSTERY.

Sounds like he is checking to see if the fake message worked, before making his move.

+58 72 is the number that the message came from, and as suntoucher has pointed out, is a number used by companies to send out SMS messages to it's user database. It seems whoever sent the message works for a company who has access to this software.

I am not, never have. We broke up after a call I made to end the relationship, due to wanting different things. After time apart, I have realised that the things I broke up with her for, are things that can be worked through. Now I am trying to get back with my ex.

Skinny lists it as Medical Centers Appointment Reminders

which also lists Twilio as a URL. Which is a global sms service.
