I've found that the places I've donated to will send a statement at the end of the year of the donations you've made. Dunno if smaller charities do that, though I'm sure if you contacted them they'd be able to send one.

If we are due a tax return, when are we expected to receive money in account from IRD?

I got a text from IRD saying my working for families payments will start shortly. Weird, I have never qualified for those peasant payments.

Have you informed them that you don’t want their soft lefty socialism payments?

What a poorly run country. I bet they don't have that sort of shenanigans in Texas.

Never the less you still have to make the payments.

Some poor unemployed family will go hungry unless you do.

Awesome. It will be interesting to see how they manage to **** it up.

Last year when doing my tax refund I noticed they had some extra income on my account. Apparently I had been working in the south island as a shephard.

That was a fun time and much time wasted on the phone to them trying to prove I've never worked in the south island or as a shephard anywhere and I hadn't earned the extra income they were wanting me to pay the tax for.

Maybe someone filled their own tax declaration form incorrectly and wrote your IRD number by mistake.

Something a long those lines was probably what happened. They obviously dont do any checking of name vs ird number I guess.

I donated a fair whack of money to charities this year. Maybe like 4 to 5K. I suppose I need to track down the statements or whatnot and sort getting tax back through the website? Iíve never bothered before because other years Iíve donated less.

I had a similar situation. The kids go to a catholic school so with a combined 2-3 years worth of voluntary mandatory donations + a $150 one off donation to the Lions Club cycle park project, I figured I might as well. I managed to get back around $80 or so. Had to fill out a form for each financial year though. Was hoping one form could cover multiple years by ticking a few boxes but nope. I sent in credit card details for this years voluntary donation/fees before the 31st of March but they didn't process it till afterwards, so won't be able to claim that till end of financial year next year.

The form had to be mailed via the snail method along with copies of the receipts. Although given the recent overhaul, you might be able to upload PDFs now.

A few years ago I sent in a couple of years worth of x charity donation receipts under a single form and it was accepted.

Anyone received an automated refund yet? Was following a Reddit thread where a lot of peeps are getting $1.98 refunds. Hoping for something a bit more decent than that considering I only worked for 3/4 of the year.

Have heard some good stories so far, kids as young as 2 getting letters from the IRD that they will be getting a refund. IRD telling people they are dead and they will have to get something to verify they aren't . This one is probably the best.

God damn am I glad I'm in the IR3 crowd where I get to control all that shit myself. My refund was paid out weeks ago.

I have heard secondhand how virtually everyone at an organisation ended up with tax bills.

Possibly they have been deliberately under deducting PAYE to make their employees think they are receiving more in the hand... or it could be fraud or a simple mistake nobody is quite sure but the employees definitely aren't happy...
