    Help me buy a monitor.

I want it for gaming and productivity.

    Ideally 1440p or better.
Ideally IPS or excellent viewing angles.
    Ideally 100hz or better.
    Ideally around 27 inch.

    Too many idealliez...

What's out there on a budget with all my ideals?

If I had to compromise to get a sub 500 dollar monitor what would you give up?

You should buy now, at that price that monitor is a steal, ticks all your boxes.

Currently have one, same panel as the fancy pants asus ones that came out at the same time.

Philips is a VA panel so it will have very bad viewing angles and potential ghosting compared to the IPS viewsonic.

Mostly going to have to give up high refresh for sub 500 but above seems decent for the price.

    Freesync for a little more.

Very limited options for those requirements. Nothing has really changed about the tech or price in many years. You still need ~1k to buy something decent if new.

The new LG 27GL850 should be available end of the year. I don't think its an upgrade per say over the my old Asus PG279Q but certainly it should be available for a bit less than 1k

Asus VG259Q coming out in the near future which should be a good choice for 1080p on a restricted budget.

    Cheers - I got this -
Acer Nitro VG271U 27" 1ms FreeSync Gaming Monitor

It's gsync compatible (unofficially), 144hz, qhd, HDR, and IPS. Perfect - $575 - so just stretched the budget a little.
