It/NZ is an odd place, I agree with most people there on things, yet if you even just try and discuss the opposite side, even explicitly declaring the devil's advocate and they will pile on you. It's either their way or get out.

In saying that, it does seem to attract some non-kiwi alt-right knobs once in a while.

Can it kill GP? No, because practically I use GP to discuss PC builds and software, which is inherently US based elsewhere.

Reddit NZ is just an Ardern Circle Jerk. Really bad there. Avoid it like the plague unless you like echo chambers. At least here people debate.
There's a bit of JA ass kissing going on in here too, not to mention the usual Trump haters, not that I like him but i certainly don't hate him.

Yeah but the difference here is there is no karma system so your posts don't get hidden because of a different opinion. That's the problem with reddit, the karma system just encourages an echo chamber because anyone with a minority opinion will get downvoted and the post hidden. They should ditch that karma system.

The whole point of Reddit is to be popular. The karma system is what stops reddit from just being another forum. It wants popular content to be at the top, to drive visits. The point is to drive down content that not many people want to read or look at, sometimes that includes opinions or views you hold.

    :hudder:: Sounds awful.

From my brief look into it, the nz reddit also seems kinda racist to me.

The problem with reddit, no matter your political persuasion, is that it's full of absolute punishers

It's still a flaw in the system. Just because you don't agree with an opinion doesn't necessarily mean it needs to be hidden from view, which is often how the karma system is used/abused.

Mainstream groups have held plenty of awful views in the past, and sometimes minority opinions need to be heard to help change mainstream opinion.

Agreed, but removing it would mean it is no longer Reddit, which is all I was trying to say.

Bobs is right (not often I would say that), it can be awful.

I don't know how you can fix it with human psychology as it is.

Problem with the internet in general is that there are no debates, just people stuck with their opinion about whatever topic. Refusing to listen to reason or thought

Everything always turns into a shit fight. If you don't agree with the most popular opinion you considered dirt basically. See it everywhere.

Indeed. I still recall when I destroyed Met-service with my predictions and was routinely mocked for years on this forum for it. I was hounded out of the country infact.

Reddit is ****ing stupid. The karma means there's no space for criticism, so dumb as **** posts that have got something completely wrong are upvoted to the top, usually with someone pretending to be something they're not, and it's taken as gospel. I gave up on it a long time ago.

I think anyone who is passionate about some sort of hobby eventually moves on from reddit to a hobby forum like this one, because they realise they're knee deep in a bunch of scrubs wanking over each others' bad advice.

I got banned from /r/nz for criticising Jacinda Ardern. But yet there are a couple of users on there that have the c word in their usernames uncensored. Mods are wacked. And people on /r/nz think the down vote option is a way of disagreeing with someone.
