    Half-Life: Alyx - VR game

This is actually looking cool so far. I might just get a MS Mixed Reality headset for this.

    It'll have modding support too.

Is it strictly VR only or is that just their main marketing strategy?

I'm definitely interested to see what Valve can do with this.

    VR required.

I still can't really justify PC VR and the supporting hardware, but looks cool.

Hah, not sure how I feel about ol' mate Rhys Darby though. I guess his voice (for me) is just too recognizable and it breaks immersion.

    Cheap car, surprised it runs

Does this game only run on Valve Index? Because the Index can't be bought in New Zealand

Not index specific, supports index, htc vive, oculus and windows mixed reality according to the steam page

Kind of feels like a kick in the balls, Gaben pushing hardware with something that he knows will be an insta buy just cause the HL name and the never ending tease of a game that never came.

    Having said that,

It'll probably get me to finally delve into VR, so yeah...I guess that ploy worked you Billionaire bastard

I've got a VR setup so I'm prolly positively biased, but the fact that they're doing this for such a limited userbase to me would indicate that its not about the money but about wanting to push the boundaries like they've done with the previous HL releases.

Ok, I have a prediction too: at the TGAs, HL3 will also be announced, and that will blow up the actual internet.

Alyx the prequel coming in 2020.
HL3 the sequel - ready when it's ready.

    Er... from the Steam page:

    SYSTEM REQUIREMENTS
    MINIMUM:
    OS: Windows 10
    Processor: Core i5-7500 / Ryzen 5 1600
    Memory: 12 GB RAM
    Graphics: GTX 1060 / RX 580 - 6GB VRAM
Shouldn't it have something about a VR peripheral?

It mentions that a VR headset is required elsewhere on the page. Those requirements are basically what is needed to run any VR game.

Me too, been waiting for a AAA game like this to play on my VR headset, let alone a Half Life game. I like that they announced it not far out from release also.

Finally got to watch the trailer, goosebumps the whole way through. The sounds, the aesthetic, its still really ****ing cool.

Not sure how I feel about what appears to be a ravenholm segment tho. I dont really wanna go to ravenholm in VR.

Hah yeah, for a training run I will get Boneworks when it releases in a couple of weeks. The robot versions of them in that should be a little bit less scary.

Feels like a slap in the face TBH. It's been 12 years since the last HL game which ended on a cliffhanger, they finally announce another HL game and instead of them finally learning to count to 3 they give us a prequel noone asked for.

And then there's the VR requirement, which means that even if your rig does meet the high GPU/CPU requirements (higher than Cyberpunk 2077) you probably still have to spend big money on a VR headset (which barely anyone has at this point).

Prediction is that this *is* HL3 but they’re hiding the other half of the game imo

    Sneaky Valve.

Anyway whatever. I’m definitely playing this one way or the other. Time to pump some money into my computer for the first time in like 6 years.
